Demolition of twin towers in north India hailed by realty sector

NEW DELHI, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- The demolition of twin towers near Delhi on Sunday was widely hailed by the Indian society, particularly those engaged in the realty sector, which said it was a stern message to the builders who violated laws while carrying out illegal constructions.

The current market value of over 900 apartments located in the twin towers was estimated at over 7 billion Indian Rupees (87.53 million U.S. dollars).

Eight bodies retrieved from river after mishap in north India

NEW DELHI, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Eight bodies were retrieved from a river in northern India on Sunday, a day after a vehicle carrying nearly 22 people fell into the river, confirmed a local official.

Fourteen of the people on board the vehicle had managed to come out of the river on Saturday after the mishap occurred in the Hardoi district of the northern state of Uttar Pradesh.

The vehicle fell from a bridge into the Garra river after the driver lost control of it. The victims were farmers returning home after selling their farm produce.

India: Adani Group plans to build 1,000-MW data centres in 10 years

Panaji, Aug 28 (PTI) Adani Group firm AdaniConneX is planning to build 1,000 megawatt data centres -- almost double the present size of the total industry -- over a period of 10 years, a senior company official said.

AdaniConneX Senior Vice President and Head of Data Centre Business, Sanjay Bhutani said the the first seven data centres of the company will come up in Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Delhi, Bengaluru and Pune.

India: Minor girl raped by teenager in UP

Bareilly (UP), Aug 28 (PTI) A minor girl was allegedly raped by a 15-year-old boy at a village here, police said on Sunday.

The incident took place on Saturday, they said.

The boy took the five-year-old girl to a secluded place after luring her with a toffee and raped her, police said.

Hearing the screams, villagers reached the spot, caught the accused and handed him over to the police, officials said.

The police have detained the accused and arrested his father, they added.

India: 12-year-old girl abducted, raped by six men in UP

Mainpuri (UP), Aug 28 (PTI) A 12-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and raped by six men here, police said on Sunday.

The incident took place on Friday when the six men kidnapped the girl, took to a field and raped her, they said.

The girl was alone in her house when the incident happened, police said.

An FIR has been lodged by the girl's father against the six men, aged between 25-27 years, under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, police said.

India: Supertech twin towers in Noida razed to ground

Noida, Aug 28 (PTI) The Supertech twin towers in Noida were demolished on Sunday, a year after the Supreme Court's direction to raze the illegally built structures to the ground.

The nearly 100-metre-high structures taller than Delhi's iconic Qutub Minar (73 metres) were brought to the ground in seconds literally like a house of cards by the 'waterfall implosion' technique, in a breathtaking spectacle of modern day engineering.

Minutes after the demolition, the nearby buildings appeared to be safe.

Bhuj (Gujarat), Aug 28 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said there have been conspiracies to defame Gujarat and stop investments to his home state.

Modi was addressing a rally after inaugurating and laying the foundation stone of development works in Bhuj district ahead of Gujarat elections slated later this year.

There were conspiracies to defame Gujarat in the country and the world. Repeated attempts were made to stop investment coming to the state, but the state chose a new path of progress, Modi said.
