India: Nitish was uncomfortable with BJP: Prashant Kishor

New Delhi, Aug 10 (PTI) Poll strategist Prashant Kishor on Wednesday said Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was not comfortable in the alliance with the BJP and that is why he moved from one political formation to the other.

Kishor, once considered a close confidant of Kumar, said the impact of the political developments in Bihar will remain limited to the state at present.

They were unlikely to have an impact on the national level in the short-run, he said.

Patna, Aug 10 (PTI) Stripped of power in Bihar, the BJP on Wednesday staged a massive demonstration condemning the betrayal of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, whose similar volte face five years ago had helped it join the government through the proverbial back door .

The `Maha Dharna' (massive demonstration) staged in front of the party office at Birchand Patel Marg was attended by all BJP MPs and MLAs from Bihar who vowed to expose the 71 years old JD(U) leader through agitations scheduled at district and block levels later this week.

India: One arrested for murdering elderly priest in UP's Bijnor

Bijnor, Aug 9 (PTI) One person was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the murder of an elderly priest, police said.

Additional Superintendent of Police, East, Omveer Singh, said on the morning of August 6, Begram, the priest at Manokamna Mandir in the Sherkot area of the district was beaten to death using a stick.

Police arrested Dinesh Kumar alias Bhutto on Tuesday, and have also recovered the stick used in the crime.

Singh said Dinesh has confessed to committing the crime over a property issue.

India: Ram Rai Ki Sarai in Kanpur's Jajmau exists in name only

Kanpur: While standing on one side of the 150-feet wide road in the morning, one finds a locality’s name as Ram Rai Ki Sarai on a big board stuck by the brick wall of the girl’s school building in Jajmau.

The name was of course written but the younger generation scarcely knows of the site once existed here.

Those who are well aware of this older locality in Kanpur’s Tannery Town tell of the locale but fail to show its vestiges. 

When the person tried to enquire about the Sarai the other two accepted that its traces are not observed all over the area.

India’s Daily COVID-19 Caseload Falls Below 13,000-Mark

NEW DELHI, Aug 9 (NNN-PTI) – India’s daily COVID-19 caseload, today fell below the 13,000-mark, officials said.

According to the federal health ministry data, released this morning, 12,751 new cases of COVID-19 were reported during the past 24 hours, taking the total tally to 44,174,650 in the country.

The cases reported today mark a decrease in comparison to the daily caseload of yesterday which was 16,167.

With the reporting of fresh cases, India’s active caseload currently stands at 131,807.

Police break up Muslim gathering in Kashmir, dozens detained

SRINAGAR, India (AP) — Police on Sunday detained dozens of people in Indian-controlled Kashmir as they dispersed Shiite Muslims who attempted to participate in processions marking the Muslim month of Muharram.

Scores of Muslims defied severe security restrictions in parts of the main city of Srinagar and took to streets chanting religious slogans. The restrictions include a ban on the Shiite religious procession.

New Delhi, Aug 7 (PTI) Drug major Cipla is betting big on digitisation and emerging segments like biosimilars and mRNA aided medications to drive its next phase of growth.

The Mumbai-based drug maker is also bullish on maximising value opportunity in the complex generics in the US market.

It is also looking to scale up its US core formulations sales on the back of respiratory and peptide franchises while monitoring upcoming complex product launches in the second half of the current fiscal.

India should set up small modular reactors to meet energy demands: Niti member V K Saraswat

New Delhi, Aug 7 (PTI) Niti Aayog member and scientist V K Saraswat on Sunday suggested that the government should focus on setting up small modular reactors as it would help meet the country's energy needs and also in replacing aging thermal power plants.

Saraswat also said nuclear power plant projects which have been set up under the fleet mode production, should be accelerated, so that India is able to meet base load requirements at the earliest.

India: With eye on 2024 polls, BJP plans to expand base among Yadavs, Pasmanda Muslims

Lucknow, Aug 7 (PTI) The BJP has planned to expand its base among the Yadavs, Jatavs and Pasmanda Muslims as part of its strategy to win all 80 Lok Sabha seats in the 2024 general election.

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and former state BJP president Keshav Prasad Maurya had also dropped a hint in a recent tweet, saying Yaduvanshi (Yadavs), Ravidasiyo (Jatavs) and Pasmanda Muslims will be brought closer to the BJP so that the lotus "blossoms" in every booth in UP.

India: Cabbie held for molesting woman passenger in Goa

Panaji, Aug 6 (PTI) Police on Saturday arrested a taxi driver for molesting a woman tourist who had hired his cab to travel to Anjuna from the state airport, an officer said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Jivba Dalvi told reporters that the woman from Chennai landed at the Goa airport on Friday night and hired a cab.

When the woman was getting down from the car at Anjuna, the cabbie, identified as Mithun Shrikant Gaur, touched her inappropriately, he said.
