Kanpur: In view of the lockdown, the consumers are finding it extremely difficult to procure the needs of the daily use particularly the vegetables. Suddenly, one vegetable vendor entered the premises of a Housing Society in Jajmau area on Saturday, the overjoyed housewives rushed at the cart for buying the vegetables.

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 27 (PTI): In a new initiative to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, stickers will be pasted on the walls of the homes of those under home quarantine in Thiruvananthapuram from Friday.

India: Staff of DTC, cluster buses provided with masks, hand sanitisers

New Delhi, Mar 27 (PTI) In view of the coronavirus outbreak, the Delhi government has provided masks and hand sanitisers to the staff of public transport buses that are serving as the lifeline of the city during the lockdown by transporting people associated with essential services.

Delhi's Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot on Friday said the drivers, conductors and marshals in all the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and cluster buses were provided with masks and hand sanitisers.

India: Maha govt mulls insurance for staff treating COVID-19 patients

Mumbai, Mar 27 (PTI) Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Friday said the state government is considering to provide insurance cover to the medical staff treating COVID-19 patients in the state.

In a Facebook live, Tope said apart from the insurance cover, the government also plans to give monetary incentive to the staff.

India: Concern over lack of protective gears for healthcare professionals

Kolkata, March 26 (PTI) Discontent has been brewing among doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals over shortage of protective gear in hospitals, with many of them threatening to cease work if not provided with necessary kits to guard against Covid-19.

Several nurses at the Beliaghata ID Hospital had on Wednesday said they would attend to the patients only after receiving personal protection equipment (PPE) masks, gloves and full body suits - following which authorities promised to look into their concerns.

India: Minor girl accuses friend, 8 others of rape

Dumka (Jharkhand), Mar 26 (PTI) A 16-year-old girl has alleged that nine persons raped her in Dumka district, after a friend misguided her to take a shortcut through a jungle, a police officer said on Thursday.

Superintendent of Police Y S Ramesh said raids have been conducted to nab the culprits after the girl, who is currently hospitalised, filed a complaint with the police against the friend and eight others who are not known to her.

India: 11,000 prisoners in Maharashtra to get parole

Mumbai, Mar 26 (PTI) Some 11,000 prisoners in Maharashtra, including those whose sentence period is less than seven years, will be released on parole for 45 days to reduce crowding and avoid spread of coronavirus in jails, Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said on Thursday.

He made the announcement through an official tweet from his handle @AnilDeshmukhNCP.

India: Moody's slashes India GDP growth in 2020 to 2.5 pc

New Delhi, Mar 27 (PTI) Moody's Investors Service on Friday slashed its estimate of India's GDP growth during 2020 calendar year to 2.5 per cent, from an earlier estimate of 5.3 per cent and said the coronavirus pandemic will cause unprecedented shock to the global economy.

The estimate for 2020 compares to 5 per cent economic growth in 2019.
