India: COVID-19 patient dies in Vadodara; Guj toll reaches 7

Ahmedabad, Apr 2 (PTI) A 52-year-old man died of coronavirus in Vadodara early Thursday morning, taking the COVID-19 toll in Gujarat to seven, an official said.

The man was admitted to Sir Sayajirao General (SSG) Hospital in Vadodara on March 19 after he fell ill on return from Sri Lanka. He later tested positive for coronavirus, principal secretary (health) Jayanti Ravi told reporters in Gandhinagar.

There are 87 coronavirus cases in the state so far.

India: Lockdown improves health of river Ganga, suitable for bathing at many poins

New Delhi, Apr 2 (PTI) The health of Ganga River has seen significant improvement since enforcement of the nationwide lockdown that has led to reduction in dumping of industrial waste into it, experts have said.

India has been placed under a three-week lockdown since March 24 with its 1.3 billion people instructed to stay home in view of the coronavirus outbreak, which has claimed 50 lives so far and infected over 1,965 people in the country.

India: Don't communalise coronavirus crisis: CPI(M)

New Delhi, Apr 2 (PTI) The CPI(M) on Thursday said that the coronavirus crisis should not be communalised and slammed both the Tablighi Jamaat as well as state authorities for allowing a mass gathering during the pandemic.

New Delhi, Apr 1 (PTI) Over 400 Russian nationals stranded in India were flown back to their homeland by a special flight on Wednesday, according to the top Russian diplomat in New Delhi.

A fourth dedicated flight has departed from the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi with stranded Russian tourists on board.

India: Ambulance employees in UP call off strike

Lucknow, Apr 1 (PTI) The association of ambulance employees in Uttar Pradesh has called off their strike following negotiations with the administration over their demands for timely wages and protective gear to guard against coronavirus.

Hanuman Pandey, a senior office bearers of the drivers' body, said they went on strike on Tuesday afternoon but it was called off in the night following negotiations.
