India: Car of Delhi BJP JJ Cell in-charge stolen

New Delhi, Jul 4 (PTI) The car of Delhi BJP's JJ Cell in-charge Neeraj Tiwari was stolen from outside his house in south Delhi's Jor Bagh area, police said on Saturday.

The incident took place on Friday morning and was captured in a CCTV camera, they added.

Tiwari said his car was stolen from outside his residence.

In the CCTV footage, two people can be seen approaching the four-wheeler and later, fleeing with it.

A senior police officer said a case was registered and an investigation underway.

India: Mangaluru city, surburbs deserted on total lockdown day

Mangaluru, Jul 5 (PTI) Mangaluru city and suburban areas in Dakshina Kannada wore a deserted look on Sunday with the people fully backing the total lockdown clamped by the district administration in the wake of increasing number of coronavirus cases.

The total lockdown is set to continue on all Sundays till August 2 unless otherwise notified.

Shops and business establishments were closed and vehicles kept off the roads.

Only essential services, including hospitals, ambulance services and supply of essential items are allowed.

India reports highest single-day spike of 24,850 more COVID-19 cases as total reaches 673,165

NEW DELHI, July 5 (Xinhua) -- India's federal health ministry Sunday morning recorded 613 new deaths and 24,850 more positive cases of COVID-19 during the past 24 hours, taking the number of deaths to 19,268 and total cases to 673,165.

This is the highest single-day spike in terms of fresh COVID-19 cases in the country so far.

According to ministry officials, 409,083 people have been discharged from hospitals after showing improvement.

"The number of active cases in the country right now is 244,814," reads the information.

India: Bombardier Transport India bags contract for supply of train-sets for Kanpur, Agra Metro

Lucknow, July 3 (PTI) Bombardier Transport India has bagged a contract for the supply of 67 trains of three cars each for Kanpur and Agra Metro projects, according to an official statement.

The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has awarded the contract for supply, testing and commissioning of 201 cars along with train control and signalling system to Bombardier Transport India Pvt. Limited.

Four international firms had submitted bids for the contract in February this year.

Delhi Police ASI on duty outside US Embassy killed by speeding car

New Delhi, Jul 3 (PTI) A 51-year-old assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Delhi Police was killed on Friday when a speeding car hit him before ramming into a wall near the US Embassy here, officials said.

The deceased has been identified as Lal Man Singh Sisodiya, they said.

The car was being driven by Siddharth Bhagat (41), an assistant professor in University of Rajasthan, police said, adding that he has been arrested.

India: Four of family hacked to death in UP's Allahabad

Allahabad, Jul 3 (PTI) Four members of a family, including two women in their twenties, were found hacked to death in their house bolted from inside, police said on Friday.

The multiple murder took place in Shukul Ka Pura Baraey Harak village under the Holagadh police station area on late Thursday night, they said.

The slain family members included its 50-year-old head Lallan Prasad Pandey, his two daughters Sheebu, 22, and Shomu, 20, and son Prince, 18, the police added.

India: Father-son death case: Absconding cop held

Tuticorin, Jul 3 (PTI) A police constable wanted in connection with the sensational case of custodial torture and murder of a father-son duo at Sathankulam here, was arrested on Friday, police said.

The constable, Muthuraj, who had managed to evade arrest for a couple of days was "secured" near Vilathikulam, about 60 km from here,and he was brought to Tuticorin and handed over to CB-CID authorities, a police official said here.

"We secured him at Poosanur off Vilathikulam.

We zeroed in on him on the basis of some inputs," he toldPTI.
