World Bank Downgraded India’s Growth Forecast To 6.5 Percent

NEW DELHI, Oct 7 (NNN-PTI) – The World Bank, yesterday, downgraded India’s economic growth forecast to 6.5 percent, for the current fiscal year (2022-23), from its earlier estimate of 7.5 percent, announced in Jun.

The international financial institution cited the deteriorating international environment for the downgrade.

Indian workers rescued from job scams in Southeast Asia

NEW DELHI (AP) — India’s government on Friday said it has rescued about 130 Indian workers from Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia after they were lured by agents for fake job opportunities in the information technology sector in Thailand.

Arindam Bagchi, the External Affairs Ministry spokesperson, said some fraudulent IT companies appear to be engaged in digital scamming and forged cryptocurrencies. The Indian workers were held captive and forced to commit cyber fraud, he told reporters.

India: Accused terrorist BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur appears before court

India: Public flogging by state police in Gujrat: TMC files complaint with NHRC

New Delhi, Oct 7 (PTI) The TMC has filed a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission in connection with the public flogging of Muslim men by Gujarat Police personnel, party spokesperson Saket Gokhale said on Friday.

India: 19-year-old raped, murdered in UP

Mainpuri (UP), Oct 6 (PTI) A 19-year-old BSc student was allegedly raped and murdered in her house at a village under the Bhogaon police station area on Wednesday, police said.

The student was alone in her house when the incident took place, police said, adding that it came to light only when her younger sister returned from school.

As she knocked at the door, a 20-year-old accused opened it and ran outside.
