India: Doctor arrested for raping woman in UP

Basti (UP), Oct 4 (PTI) A doctor was arrested for allegedly raping a woman here, police said on Tuesday.

The woman filed a complaint with the police stating that the doctor, posted at a hospital in the Basti Sadar Kotwali area, befriended her on social media and asked her to visit him, they said.

When she visited the hospital, the doctor took her to his hostel room where he and his two colleagues, who are also doctors, raped her, police said quoting the complainant.

India: Delhi Police arrests four PFI members under UAPA

New Delhi, Oct 4 (PTI) Four persons allegedly linked to the banned Popular Front of India (PFI) were arrested by Delhi Police under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, officials said on Tuesday.

This is the first arrest of any PFI member in the national capital after the outfit was banned by the Centre on September 28. Earlier, Delhi Police had conducted raids at PFI units spread across six districts of the city and detained 33 people allegedly linked with the group.

Domestic help arrested for murder of JK DG (Prison) Hemant Lohia

Jammu, Oct 4 (PTI) A 23-year-old man working as a domestic help was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly murdering Jammu and Kashmir Director General (Prisons) Hemant K Lohia here, police said.

Yasir Lohar's arrest from a field in Kanhachak area followed a major all-night manhunt, police said in a statement, adding that his interrogation was underway.

The 1992-batch IPS officer was found dead on Monday night at his friend's house on the outskirts of Jammu, with burn injuries on his body and his throat slit.

Farm vehicle packed with people overturns in India; 26 dead

LUCKNOW, India (AP) — A farm tractor pulling a wagon loaded with people overturned and fell into a pond in northern India, killing 26 people, most of them women and children, officials said Sunday.

The wagon was carrying around 40 people returning from a ceremony at a nearby local Hindu temple Saturday night, said police Superintendent Tej Swaroop Singh. He said most of the deaths were due to drowning.

India: 26 die, over 10 hurt as tractor trolley overturns near Kortha village

Kanpur: Screaming and wailing enveloped Kortha village of Narwal Tehsil here. When six dead bodies were kept at the house courtyard. It was a heart wrenching scene.

As many as 26 people had lost their lives in the village simultaneously. A tractor trolley returning from Mundan overturned near a place, about two and a half km from the village.

The Mundan ceremony of Abhi, son of Raju Nishad of the village, was on Saturday at Chandrika Devi temple.

India: Phone evidence leads 3 arrests in Kanpur hostel obscene videos case

Kanpur: As many as three people have been so far arrested in the case related to the girls' obscene videos taken in a hostel here. This arrest has taken place a day after the hostel staffer was caught filming them showering.

The staffer, who allegedly made videos of several girl students, was arrested on September 29 and the police have recovered evidence from the seized phone of the accused.

We have evidence of videos on the phone as per primary investigation, said Anand Prakash Tiwari, joint commissioner here.

India: Police arrest hostel sweeper for filming videos of girl students

Kanpur: A man, employed as a sweeper in a private hostel here, has been arrested for filming videos of girl students. It is they who accused him of making their obscene videos.

The incident took place in a hostel located in the Tulsi Nagar area here where medical aspirants are staying.

The accused allegedly made videos of girls showering. The girl students filed a police complaint leading to the arrest of the man allegedly involved in the despicable act.

According to the complaint, the hostel staffer made several obscene videos of the girls in the hostel.

India Appointed Anil Chauhan As New Chief Of Defence Staff

NEW DELHI, Sept 29 (NNN-PTI) – India appointed Anil Chauhan as the new chief of defence staff (CDS), who shall also function as secretary to the Indian government’s Department of Military Affairs.

He will soon assume the charge of his new posting, said an official today.

Chauhan will be the country’s second CDS after Bipin Rawat, who died in an air crash, around 10 months ago. Since then, the post had been lying vacant.

Chauhan was commissioned into the Indian Army in 1981, and retired in May 2021, as the officer commanding-in-chief of the Eastern Army Command.
