India: One farmer dying every hour in BJP rule: Congress

New Delhi, Sep 20 (PTI) The Congress on Tuesday held the policies of the ruling BJP dispensation responsible for farmer suicides in the country and claimed that one farmer ended his life every hour.

Pune-based farmer Dashrath Lakshman Kedari, who allegedly killed himself on September 17, in his suicide note said he did not have any money to pay back his loans and held the BJP government's policies responsible for his death, party spokesperson Supriya Shrinate told reporters.

India: Will restore old pension scheme if elected to power in Gujarat: Rahul

New Delhi, Sep 20 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday accused the BJP of making the elderly dependent by abolishing the old pension scheme.

He assured that the Congress, if elected to power in Gujarat, will restore the old pension scheme, saying it is the right of government employees who strengthen the nation.

India: Delhi's monkeypox tally rises to 9

NEW DELHI, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- A 30-year-old woman has tested positive for monkeypox in the Indian capital, an official of the Delhi health department said on Monday.

With this, the total number of monkeypox cases in the capital city went up to nine, as the country's tally rose to 14.

The latest patient has been admitted to a local government hospital. She has blisters and pus-filled lesions on various parts of her body.

A suspected male patient was admitted to the state-run hospital on Sunday. His test reports are awaited, said media reports. 

India: Kanpur university students demand correction in results

Kanpur: The CSJMU students are enraged at the disparity in the results.

Reacting to the matter Dr Anil Mishra, Controller of Examinations of the University, said that the students feeling discrepancies in their results should register their problems at the Grievances' Cell.

He also added that their problems will be solved according to the rules of the university. If there is a need to review their results, they will also be reviewed. Copies will also be rechecked.

India: Court rejects former Union minister and BJP leader Chinmayanand's plea against his arrest warrant in a sexual abuse case

Shahjahanpur (UP), Sep 17 (PTI) A court here rejected the plea of former Union minister Swami Chinmayanand Saraswati against his arrest warrant in a case of sexual abuse.

The case was lodged by one of his disciples. Swamy had sought a stay on his arrest warrant, citing his eye operation.

The MP-MLA Court's special advocate Neelima Saxena told PTI on Saturday that the arrest warrant was issued two months ago.

India: Man awarded life term for abducting, raping girl in UP

Muzaffarnagar, Sep 17 (PTI) A special court in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for abducting and raping a 15-year-old girl.

Special POCSO court judge Mumtaz Ali also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the convict.

On September 9, 2020, the girl was abducted from her house and raped for two days by the man, district government counsel Sanjay Chouhan said on Saturday.

After sexual assault, the convict had left the girl in a locality near her house, he said.

India: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan meets RSS chief

Thrissur, Sep 17 (PTI) Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan Saturday night met RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat here amid the brewing discontent between the governor and the state's Left government.

The governor's office said Khan had a brief meeting with Bhagwat at around 8 PM.

The meeting took place at an RSS leader's house here.

India: Bharat Jodo Yatra (Unite India Journey) enters 11th day

Haripad (Ker), Sep 18 (PTI) The Congress party's Bharat Jodo Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi resumed its journey on Sunday from Kerala's Haripad with hundreds of party workers and leaders accompanying it.

The yatra, which entered its 11th day, started shortly after 6.30 AM and senior leaders including Ramesh Chennithala, K Muraleedharan, Kodikunnil Suresh, K C Venugopal and Leader of Opposition, V D Satheesan are walking beside Gandhi in the 13 km-long first leg of the march.

Indian PM releases cheetahs in Madhya Pradesh's Kuno national park

NEW DELHI, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Saturday launched a cheetah reintroduction program in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, officials said.

Modi released the cheetahs that were brought from Namibia into enclosures at Madhya Pradesh's Kuno national park.

Television images show the prime minister releasing two cheetahs from enclosure number one and later the third from the second enclosure.
