India: ED attaches over Rs 1,300 cr worth assets in money laundering case against realty group IREO

New Delhi, Oct 16 (PTI) The Enforcement Directorate has attached assets worth more than Rs 1,317 crore of real estate group IREO, its managing director and vice president Lalit Goyal and associated entities as part of a money laundering investigation.

The attached properties include land, commercial spaces, plots, residential houses and bank accounts, the federal agency said in a statement issued on Saturday.

The total value of these attached properties is Rs 1,317.30 crore.

India: Kanpur's famous Magician OP Sharma is dead

Kanpur: Popular magician OP Sharma has passed away after a prolonged illness at a hospital here.

OP Sharma's Bhoot Bungalow was located in Barra locality. He belonged to Ballia.

He had contested the assembly elections from Govind Nagar on a Samajwadi Party ticket in year 2002.

However his entry in the BJP happened in the year 2019.

Deputy CM K P Mauraya has also expressed his condolence on his sudden death. 

India slips further in Global Hunger Index - behind Nepal, Bangla Desh and Pakistan

Delhi; 16 Oct 2022 (UMMN): According to the latest report, India has slipped to the 107th position in the Global Hunger Index (GHI) 2022 of 121 countries, from its 2021 position of 101st, falling behind its neighbours Nepal, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

In 2021, India ranked 101 out of 116 countries while in 2020 the country was placed at 94th position.

NEW DELHI, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- India ranked 107 out of about 120 countries and regions in the Global Hunger Index (GHI) 2022, according to the latest GHI report.

The South Asian country has slipped from last year's ranking of 101, to be placed behind its neighbors Sri Lanka (64), Myanmar (71), Nepal (81), Bangladesh (84) and Pakistan (99).

With the new ranking, only 14 countries or regions fared worse than India this year.

The recently-released report has been prepared jointly by the Irish aid agency Concern Worldwide and the German organization Welthungerhilfe.

India: Middle aged man comes under speeding truck in Kanpur's Panki

Kanpur: A heart-wrenching road accident occurred in the Panki area here on Saturday.

A middle-aged cyclist was hit by a speeding truck at the crossroads leading to the Ratanpur tempo stand of the Panki police station area.

The elder cyclist came under the rear wheel and he died a painful death on the spot.

On getting information about the tragic incident, the police reached the spot from the nearest police station.

A thorough investigation will bring the exact cause of the accident.

India: Gambling caught at chamber in Kanpur's Kutchery

Kanpur: The Kanpur Bar Association President Naresh Chandra Tripathi and General Secretary Anurag Srivastava conducted raids on the complaint of gambling in the court on Thursday evening.

Gambling was caught in the chamber of advocate n the Kachari campus here, as has been allegedly reported.

Bar Association President Naresh Chandra Tripathi said that on receiving the information, a sudden raid was conducted in Ashutosh Singh's chamber.

India: Centre's "colonial settler project" initiated: Mehbooba on latest ECI order

Srinagar, Oct 12 (PTI) PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday flayed the Election Commission's order for registration of new voters in Jammu, charging that the Centre's "colonial settler project" has been initiated in the region.

The former J-K chief minister said the BJP's alleged attempts to create religious and regional divisions between Jammu and Kashmir must be "thwarted" because "whether its a Kashmiri or a Dogra, safeguarding our identity and rights will be possible only if we put up a collective fight".

Indian army to conduct military exercise on Western front

Chandigarh, Oct 13 (PTI) Offensive formations of the Indian Army are preparing to take part in a military exercise on the Western front this month, according to a defence release here on Thursday.

It is expected to be one of the biggest exercises in recent times and will be witnessed by the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Command, and other key officials from Army headquarters, it said.

India: Educators from Nepal visit Delhi government schools

New Delhi, Oct 12 (PTI) A team of 30 educators from Nepal visited Delhi government schools here on Wednesday to understand the initiatives taken by the city government, the Directorate of Education said.

Welcoming them, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said such "collaborations are crucial" for the Delhi government to take its schools to "new heights of excellence".

India: Army recruitment under Agnipath scheme held at Kozhikode

Kochi, Oct 12 (PTI) The first ever army recruitment rally in Kerala under the Agnipath Scheme was conducted at Government Physical Education College, Kozhikode from October 1 to 10, the Defence PRO said on Wednesday.

The recruitment was held to select the candidates from seven districts of North Kerala--Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Thrissur and Palakkad along with the Union Territories of Mahe and Lakshadweep, the Defence release said.
