India: Yes Bank: ED arrests 2 Cox and Kings Group executives for money laundering

Mumbai, Oct 6 (PTI) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday arrested the former CFO and the former internal auditor of the Cox and Kings Group in connection with its money laundering probe in the Yes Bank alleged loan default case.

The agency said ex-chief financial officer Anil Khandelwal and ex-internal auditor Naresh Jain were arrested under the provision of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Both the accused were produced before a local court that sent them to 7 days' ED custody, it said in a statement.

India: 10kg IED planted by Naxal terrorists recovered in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Oct 6 (PTI) Women commandos of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) on Tuesday recovered a powerful 10-kg improvised explosive device (IED), planted by Maoists, in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district and later defused it, a police official said.

The explosive, packed in a pressure cooker, was unearthed from a dirt track between Surnaar and Tetam villages under Katekalyan police station limits by a team of Danteshwari fighters during an operation, Dantewada Superintendent of Police Abhishek Pallava told PTI.

India's COVID-19 tally rises to 6,757,131, death toll 104,555

NEW DELHI, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- India's COVID-19 tally reached 6,757,131 and death toll 104,555 on Wednesday as 72,049 new cases were detected and 986 patients died during the past 24 hours, said the latest data released by the federal health ministry.

Currently there are 907,883 active COVID-19 cases in the country, while 5,744,693 people have been successfully cured and discharged from hospitals.

India: Girl raped in UP's Gorakhpur

Gorakhpur (UP), Oct 6 (PTI) A deaf and mute girl was allegedly raped by a 25-year-old man in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur district, police said.

The 18-year-old girl was sleeping when Pintu Prasad entered her house at a village in Chauri Chaura area on Monday afternoon. He covered the girl's face and raped her, according to the police.

India: Rise in cases against sitting, ex-lawmakers in last 2 years: report filed in SC

New Delhi, Oct 5 (PTI) Criminal cases against sitting and former lawmakers have increased over the last two years and strict monitoring at the micro level is needed by high courts to ensure expeditious disposal of cases against them, the Supreme Court was informed on Monday.

The total number of cases against sitting and former lawmakers are 4,859 as per a new report, while it was 4,442 in March 2020, the top court was apprised in a report filed before it.

India: Boy kidnapped for ransom, murdered in UP's Mathura

Mathura (UP), Oct 5 (PTI) An 11-year-old boy was allegedly murdered and his body dumped in a bush near Jawahar Bagh in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura district, as a ransom of Rs 5 lakh was not paid in time by the father, police said on Monday.

A 26-year-old accused identified as Lokesh alias Pillu was arrested in connection with the case on Sunday, they added.

India: Dalit woman alleges rape by seven men in MP

Hoshangabad (MP), Oct 5 (PTI) A 19-year-old Dalit woman has alleged that she was raped by seven men separately in Hoshangabad district of Madhya Pradesh last month, police said on Monday, adding that four persons have been arrested.

The alleged incidents had taken place on September 20 and September 25, a police officer said quoting the FIR lodged by the woman on Sunday.

The complainant is a resident of a village under Piparia police station area in Hoshangabad district.
