India: 2 more accused of gang-rape held, one at large

Coimbatore, Oct 3 (PTI): Two persons allegedly involved in the gang-rape of a woman (22) in Palladam in nearby Tirupur district were arrested in the early hours of Saturday, police said.

Already, three have been arrested while search was still on for another in connection with the crime that took place on September 28, the police said.

The victim, hailing from Assam and a resident of Coimbatore, lodged a complaint stating that she was raped by five people after being taken to an isolated spot by Rajeev on a motorcycle, they said.

India: SAD seeks SC-monitored probe into Hathras incident

Chandigarh, Oct 3 (PTI) Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal on Saturday sought a Supreme Court-monitored inquiry into the Hathras incident in Uttar Pradesh.

Badal, who had recently snapped ties with the BJP-led NDA, accused the Uttar Pradesh government of discriminating against the victim's family by "forcibly conducting" her last rites.

Indian and Bangladeshi navies hold military drill

New Delhi, Oct 3 (PTI) The navies of India and Bangladesh held a mega military exercise in the Bay of Bengal on Saturday in sync with their growing operational coordination, officials said.

A variety of maritime drills and operations were conducted as part of the annual 'Bongosagar' exercise, they said.

India: Law and order has collapsed in Tripura

Agartala, Oct 3 (PTI) The opposition CPI(M) in Tripura on Saturday alleged that law and order has collapsed in the state ever since the BJP-IPFT combine came to power, and sought the DGP's intervention to improve the situation.

A three-member delegation of CPI(M) led by party secretary Goutam Das met the DGP, Rajib Singh here and submitted a memorandum, detailing incidents of attacks on the opposition party workers "carried out by goons of the BJP and IPFT".

India: 2 Navy personnel dead as glider crashes in Kochi

Kochi, Oct 4 (PTI) Two Navy personnel died as a glider on routine flight crashed here on Sunday morning, a Defence spokesperson said.

He said the naval power glider was on a routine training sortie and took off from INS Garuda. It crashed near Thoppumpady bridge close to the naval base at around 7 am.

Lt Rajeev Jha and Petty officer Sunil Kumar, who were in the glider, were rescued from the crash site and shifted to INHS Sanjivani.

However, they were declared brought dead, the spokesperson said.

India: Man in J'khand gets life term for killing wife over dowry

Ramgarh (Jharkhand), Oct 1 (PTI) A court in Ramgarh sentenced a man to life imprisonment after he was convicted of killing his wife for dowry two years ago.

SK Shukla, the additional public prosecutor, said the court on Wednesday awarded life term to 27-year-old Naresh Mahto, who had in February 2018 poisoned his 21-year-old wife Dayamani Devi, after she failed to pay him a dowry of Rs 50,000.

The woman's father filed a police complaint, following which Mahato was arrested.

India: Garbage dumped in front of Hathras DM's home in Raj

Jaipur, Oct 2 (PTI) Some unidentified people dumped a pile of garbage in front of Hathras district magistrate's Jaipur home on Friday, police said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Raisingh Beniwal said information was being gathered about the incident and efforts were made to identify the miscreants.
