India: Woman Naxal terrorist with Rs 5 lakh reward on head held in C'garh

Raipur, Oct 30 (PTI) A woman Naxal carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakh on her head was arrested from Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Kanker district, police said on Friday

Acting on a specific input, Dashri Korsa alias Samita was apprehended from her native village Gattakal under Koyalibeda police station limits on Thursday when she had arrived there to visit her family, an official said.

A joint team of Border Security Force (BSF) and local police was involved in the action, he said.

India: Posters of French president removed by cops in Vadodara

Ahmedabad, Oct 30 (PTI) Posters calling for boycott of France and its president Emmanuel Macron surfaced in a Muslim-dominated locality in Gujarat's old Vadodara city and were later removed by police on Friday, an official said.

According to the police, the posters, carrying Macron's photograph and the words "Boycott Macron" and "Boycott France", were pasted by some unidentified persons on a small stretch of a road at Nawab Wada.

India: Observers' no to repolling in 71 seats of Bihar assembly

Patna, Oct 30 (PTI) Observers have not recommended repolling in any of the 71 seats that went to polls in the first phase of the Bihar assembly elections on October 28, sources in the Election Commission said on Friday.

State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) H R Srinivas, in his report based on inputs provided by returning officers and district election officers, has also concluded that repolling was not required in any of the seats, they said.

India: Odisha farmers take out rally against new farm laws

Sambalpur (Odisha), Oct 30 (PTI) Farmers from across Odisha held a rally in Bargarh district on Friday to protest against the new farm laws describing these as a threat to the farming community and age-old institutions.

Shouting slogans against the farm laws, a large number of farmers took part in the rally at Padampur town under the banner of Paschim Odisha Krushak Sangathan Samanwaya Samiti (POKSSS) and Rajbodasambar Krushak Sangathan and congregated at a mega protest meeting.

India: BJP organises Lakshmi Puja in Kolkata to reach out people before next year's election

Kolkata, Oct 30 (PTI) After organising a Durga Puja for the first time in West Bengal, the BJP on Friday performed its maiden Lakshmi Puja in an attempt to reach out to the people of the state ahead of next year's assembly elections.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had addressed the people of the state while inaugurating the BJP's Durga Puja at the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre in Salt Lake area on the eastern fringes of Kolkata on Maha Shashti on October 22.

Delhi witnesses coldest October in 58 years

New Delhi, Oct 31 (PTI) The month of October was the coldest in 58 years in the national capital, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD) data.

The mean minimum temperature in October this year was 17.2 degrees Celsius, the lowest since 1962, when it was 16.9 degrees Celsius, the IMD said.

Normally, Delhi records a mean minimum temperature of 19.1 degrees Celsius in October.

India: Police barrack-roof collapsed in UP's Kanpur, one died

Kanpur: None was penalised for collapsing of the roof of the barrack no 1 in the Police Lines here, though one police personal died in the damage.

It is reported that the room was in a very dilapidated condition. Despite its poor condition, there was little care given to the structure. 

Even the repairing was not initiated from the fund the police department received during the past days.

The policeman Arvind Singh R/o Lalpur Bewar of Mainpuri district lost his life in this roof collapse on August 24. 

India and US discuss UNSC agenda, agree to work closely together

Washington, Oct 30 (PTI) India and the US have held wide ranging discussions on issues on the UN Security Council agenda and agreed to work closely given their shared values of democracy, pluralism and rule-based international order, officials here said.

Earlier this year, India, along with Mexico and Ireland, was elected a non-permanent member for a two-year term starting January 1, 2021.

Delhi's air quality 'very poor'

New Delhi, Oct 30 (PTI) The national capital's air quality was recorded in the very poor category on Friday morning, while a government forecasting agency said some improvement is likely due to favourable wind speed.

On Thursday, the city's air quality index (AQI) touched severe levels for a brief period before slipping back into the very poor category.

According to the Ministry of Earth Sciences' air quality monitoring agency, SAFAR, the share of stubble burning in Delhi's PM2.5 pollution was 36 percent on Thursday -- the maximum so far this season.

India: FIR against ex-Congress leader for making video on BJP MP

Indore, Oct 29 (PTI) An FIR has been filed against a former Congress leader here after a video went viral on social media in which minor girls dressed like Rani Laxmibai were purportedly heard making certain comments against BJP Rajya Sabha MP Jyotiraditya Scindia and his family, said a police official on Thursday.

On the basis of a complaint lodged by the BJP with a poll officer, a case was registered against former Congress leader Prakash Mahawar and two to three unidentified women on Wednesday evening, Chandrawatiganj police station in-charge Mohan Jat said.
