India: Attempts to show black flags to Nadda in city

Kolkata, Dec 9 (PTI) Alleged Trinamool Congress supporters Wednesday attempted to show black flags to BJP national president J P Nadda from a spot outside the newly opened election office of the saffron party at Hastings area of the city when he was inside it.

About 50 people tried to wave black flags from the spot located some distance away from the newly opened office.

They also shouted "BJP go back" when Nadda entered the building.

India: Stop playing games with farmers: SAD to Centre

Chandigarh, Dec 9 (PTI) The Shiromani Akali Dal on Wednesday asked the BJP-led Centre to stop playing games with innocent farmers and withdraw the three farm laws "immediately and unconditionally".

The SAD, which had pulled out of the National Democratic Alliance amid the consistent digs at it by the Congress after the enactment of the laws, also backed the farmers' rejection of the Centre's proposal on these laws.

India: Minor raped by two boys in UP village

Jalaun (UP), Dec 10 (PTI) A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by two minor boys in a village in Aata area here, police said on Thursday.

The girl has been admitted to a hospital in Jhansi in a serious condition, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Awadhesh Singh, told PTI.

"The incident took place on Wednesday evening when the girl was playing outside her house and a 13-year-old boy took her to a secluded place where another boy (11 years) was also present. Both of them allegedly raped the girl," he said.

India’s COVID-19 Tally Reaches 9,735,850, Death Toll At 141,360

NEW DELHI, Dec 9 (NNN-PTI) – India’s COVID-19 tally reached 9,735,850 today, as 32,080 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours, while the death toll mounted to 141,360 with 402 new deaths, according to the latest data from the health ministry.

Delhi has been one of the most COVID-19-affected places in the country. As many as 3,188 new cases and 57 deaths were registered in the national capital during the past 24 hours.

India: Agitating farmer unions get draft proposals from Govt

New Delhi, Dec 9 (PTI) As thousands of farmers continue to protest at various borders of the national capital demanding the repeal of three new farm laws, a representative group of their unions on Wednesday received a draft proposal from the government on some key concerns raised by the protesters.

The draft proposal has been sent to 13 farm union leaders including Joginder Singh Urgrahan of BKU (Ekta Ugrahan), one of the biggest among nearly 40 agitating unions.

India: Dalit man killed for 'touching' food in MP village

Chhatarpur (MP), Dec 9 (PTI) A 25-year-old man died after he was allegedly assaulted by two men apparently for touching their food while they were partying together in Madhya Pradesh's Chhatarpur district, police said on Wednesday.

The deceased Devraj Anuragi, a Dalit, had gone to attend a party hosted by the accused, Bhura Soni and Santosh Pal, in Kishanpur village under Gaurihar police station area, about 100 kms from the district headquarter, on Monday night.

India's weapons procurement from the US jumps to USD 3.4 billion in 2020

Washington, Dec 9 (PTI) India's weapons procurement from the United States jumped from a meagre USD 6.2 million to a whopping USD 3.4 billion in the final year of the Donald Trump's administration, according to official data.

As per the data released by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), the jump in the sale of American weapons to India comes at a time when sale of weapons from the US to other countries has dipped to USD 50.8 billion in 2020 from USD 55.7 billion in 2019.
