India: Priyanka takes out Road show in Kerala

Kayamkulam(Ker), Mar 30 (PTI) Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday began her campaign for the April 6 assembly polls in Kerala, by taking out a road show meandering through this ancient maritime trading town in Alappuzha district, seeking votes for the party candidate.

Seated atop a moving vehicle along with Aritha Babu, the Congress candidate from Kayamkulam, Priyanka clad in a yellow salwar kameez, waved to the jostling crowd of people lined up on both sides of the road and also shook hands with many enthusiastic voters.

India: Petrol price cut by 22 paise, diesel by 23 paise

New Delhi, Mar 30 (PTI) Petrol and diesel prices on Tuesday were cut for the third time within a week on the back of softening international oil prices.

Petrol price was cut by 22 paise per litre and diesel by 23 paise per litre, according to a price notification of state-owned fuel retailers.

Petrol now costs Rs 90.56 per litre in Delhi and a litre of diesel comes for Rs 80.87.

India: 2 Kashmiris killed by Indian Sec Forces in Shopian district of Indian Administered Kashmir

Shopian, 30 March  2021: 2 Kashmiris have been killed on Saturday by Indian security forces in Wangam of Shopian district of the Indian Administered Kashmir, Indian officials said.

The separatists killed have been identified as Inatullah Sheik and Adil Malik.

India's COVID-19 tally crosses 12 million

NEW DELHI, March 29 (Xinhua) -- India's COVID-19 tally crossed 12 million mark, reaching 12,039,644 on Monday as 68,020 new cases were reported across the country, the highest daily spike this year, according to the latest figures released by the federal health ministry.

A total of 291 deaths were reported since Sunday morning, taking the death toll to 161,843.

There are still 521,808 active cases in the country, while 11,355,993 people have been discharged from hospitals after medical treatment.

India: Mamata conducts massive roadshow in Nandigram

Nandigram (WB), Mar 29 (PTI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday conducted a massive roadshow in Nandigram, where she is pitted against her former lieutenant and BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari.

The high-stakes constituency in Purba Medinipur district will go to the polls in the second phase on April 1.

Accompanied by senior TMC leaders, Banerjee led the 8 -km-long roadshow from Reyapara Khudiram More to Thakurchowk in her wheelchair, greeting people with folded hands.

India: 8 killed as truck ploughs into roadside eatery in Bihar

Bihar Sharif, Mar 28 (PTI) Eight people were killed and several others seriously injured when a speeding truck ploughed into a roadside eatery in Bihar's Nalanda district on Sunday, police said.

Irate locals set fire to the vehicle and indulged in heavy stone-pelting when police and administrative officials reached the spot, a senior police officer said.

India: 2 held for gang rape of minor in UP's Kaushambi

Kaushambi (UP), Mar 28 (PTI) Two men were arrested here on Sunday in connection with the alleged gang-rape of a girl, police said.

Additional Superintendent of Police Samar Bahadur Singh said the incident took place on March 25, when the girl, aged around 15, had gone to collect fodder for animals.

The girl lodged a police complaint on Saturday, the additional SP said, adding she was sent for medical examination.

The accused were arrested on Sunday and sent to jail, Singh said.

India: BJP leader critically injured in bomb attack in Odisha

Jajpur (Odisha), Mar 28 (PTI) A Right to Information (RTI) activist, who is also a local BJP leader, suffered serious injuries after miscreants hurled bombs at him in Odisha's Jajpur district, police said on Sunday.

Sarbeswar Behuria was admitted to Dharmasala CHC for treatment after the attack on Saturday night near Imam Nagar, but later shifted to SCB College and Hospital in Cuttack as his condition deteriorated, they said.

Behuria was returning home along with an associate in a car when two men intercepted the vehicle, lobbed bombs and fled.

India: Holi revellers violate COVID-19 norms in Mumbai suburb

Mumbai, Mar 29 (PTI) A large number of people, most of them without masks, gathered on a road in Mahim area of Mumbai on Monday morning and celebrated Holi while dancing to loud music, in violation of the COVID-19 guidelines.

Around 100 to 150 people came out of their homes to celebrate the festival on the road located in Mahim Koliwada, even as police officials present there apparently did nothing to stop them.

Some women danced to loud music, while a few persons in the crowd were seen wearing PPE suits.

India: NCERT books need to be part of school curriculum

Kanpur: As the new academic session is going to begin from the first week of the month of April, the parents are flocking to the shop for buying the books. The book list is also available at the shop.

As the parents were confident of buying the NCERT books for the main subjects, they learnt of the titles published by private publications.

The disturbed parents said that the price of the NCERT books is always within reach. But private publications are seldom cheaper. Why have school authorities not checked it?
