India: FM announces Rs 6 lakh cr asset monetisation pipeline

New Delhi, Aug 23 (PTI) Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday announced a Rs 6 lakh crore National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP) that will look to unlock value in infrastructure assets across sectors ranging from power to road and railways.

She also said the asset monetisation does not involve selling of land and it is about monetising brownfield assets.

Projects have been identified across sectors, with roads, railways and power being the top segments.

India: Kanpur to get elevated road from Civil Lines to Ghantaghar

Kanpur: An elevated road stretching between UP Stock Exchange in Civil Lines and Ghantaghar Chauraha will be constructed. This will undoubtedly change the traffic infrastructure in the city. 

The officers concerned have formulated this scheme of raising an elevated road to mitigate a durable remedy to the multiple problems. 

The road users welcoming the decision have felt relief from crowded roads during peak hours.

India: Afghan crisis leads to rise in dry fruits' rates at Kanpur market

Kanpur: Surge in rates of dry fruits has been noticed in the market here. Speaking on this matter, Alankar Omar, Vice president of Nayaganj dry fruits market, said, " The prices of dry fruits here have increased as imports from Afghanistan have been disrupted."

Adding his points he went on saying, "We know a bit about the crisis of that country. We import pistachio, almond, fig, dried apricots from Afghanistan. The prices have increased by almost 15-20 per cent."

India: Kanpur student designs solar AC cutting electricity costs

Kanpur: A second-year B.Tech student, from a private engineering college in Rooma here, has developed a new solar-powered air conditioner in a bid to give an eco-friendly alternative to the existing ACs. 

Sharing his concept with the college teachers he got ample support from them. According to the student S Singh, this prototype will be suitable for use in e-rickshaw as it neither consume electricity nor engine oil.

India: AAP alleges corruption in organisation of 2019 Kumbh

Lucknow, Aug 23 (PTI) Citing a CAG report, the Aam Aadmi Party on Monday accused the Uttar Pradesh government of indulging in corruption in organising the 2019 Kumbh Mela held in Allahabad.

According to the CAG report, there were "huge irregularities" in the expenditure of Rs 2,700-crore fund allocated for organising the Kumbh, AAP MP and Uttar Pradesh incharge Sanjay Singh said in a statement.

The audit found that 32 tractors purchased using the fund were registered under numbers of cars, mopeds and scooters, he alleged.

India: Dalit woman raped in UP village

Shahjahanpur (UP), Aug 22 (PTI) An 18-year-old Dalit woman was allegedly raped by a man in a village here, police said on Sunday.

SHO of Tilhar Police Station Sanjay Kumar said the incident occurred when the young woman was taking her cattle for grazing.

According to police, the accused is a middle aged man and hails from the same village as the victim, police said.

The woman narrated her ordeal to her family members after returning home following which the police registered a case on Sunday and she was sent for a medical examination, they said.

India: Amarnath yatra concludes in J-K with 'Samapan Pooja'

Srinagar, Aug 22 (PTI) The 'samapan pooja' to mark the end of this year's symbolic annual Amarnath yatra was performed at the holy cave on Sunday amid chanting of religious hymns and mantras, an official spokesperson said.

Chief Executive Officer, Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB), Nitishwar Kumar, prayed for sustained peace, harmony, progress, and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir, the spokesperson said.

India: Clever moves needed to defeat BJP: Shiv Sena

Mumbai, Aug 23 (PTI) The Shiv Sena on Monday said opposition parties will have to make "shrewd and clever moves" to defeat the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and West Bengal and Maharashtra have shown that the Modi-Shah juggernaut can be halted in the poll battlefield and on the political chessboard.

"Only thing you need is a strong will to fight," an editorial in the Sena mouthpiece 'Saamana' said, adding that a definite action plan is the need of the hour.

India's first smog tower inaugurated in Delhi by Arvind Kejriwal

New Delhi, Aug 23 (PTI) Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated the "country's first smog tower" at Connaught Place in Delhi on Monday and said it will prove to be a milestone and many such structures can be installed in the city if the pilot project yields results.

He also said that the concentration of PM2.5 has reduced from 150 micrograms per cubic metre to 100 g/m and that of PM10 has dipped from 300 g/m to 150 g/m in the national capital since 2014 due to the efforts made in the last few years.
