India: Farmers head to Lucknow for Monday's mahapanchayat (Great Farmers' Assembly)

Lucknow/Muzaffarnagar/Lakhimpur Kheri, Nov 21 (PTI) The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of farmers unions, will hold a mahapanchayat in Lucknow on Monday to press for law guaranteeing MSP and the sacking of Union Minister Ajay Mishra, whose son is an accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence.

India: UP BJP chief launches booth membership campaign

Lucknow, Nov 21 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh BJP chief Swatantra Dev Singh launched the party's "booth sadasyata abhiyan" (booth membership campaign) from Ghaziabad on Sunday.

Under the campaign, new members will be enrolled into the party by reaching out to every household under all the polling booths, state BJP's co-media in-charge Abhay Singh said, adding that on November 27 and November 28, a special booth membership campaign will be held in which the party's office-bearers, public representatives and workers will participate.

Indian navy officer arrested in information leak case gets bail

New Delhi, Nov 22 (PTI) Serving Naval Commander Ajit Kumar Pandey, arrested by the CBI in the alleged leak of confidential information on maintenance and purchase of naval equipment, received default bail from a special court, officials said.

The court granted bail to Pandey, who was arrested on September 3, as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had filed an "incomplete charge sheet" against him and others with regards to the probe under the Official Secrets Act.

India: President confers Vir Chakra on Abhinandan Varthaman

New Delhi, Nov 22 (PTI) Group Captain Abhinandan Varthaman, who downed an enemy jet during an aerial combat with Pakistan in 2019 and was held captive for three days in that country, was on Monday honoured with the Vir Chakra award by President Ram Nath Kovind.

The fighter pilot of the Indian Air Force has been decorated with India's third-highest wartime gallantry medal for displaying an "exceptional sense of duty" during the dogfight, the award citation said.

India: Dengue cases in Delhi mount to over 7,100 this year

New Delhi, Nov 22 (PTI) Dengue cases in Delhi this season have jumped to over 7,100, with nearly 5,600 of those being recorded in November alone, according to a civic report released on Monday.

On November 15, the city had recorded a cumulative total of 5,277 dengue cases, making it the highest number of cases of the vector-borne disease recorded in the national capital in a year since 2015.

Nearly 1,850 fresh cased have been logged in the last one week. However, no fresh fatality due due to dengue has been reported.

India: Keep rail tracks free from defecation: NGT

New Delhi, Nov 21 (PTI) The National Green Tribunal has directed the Railway to ensure that tracks are not used for defecation and waste water disposal from habitation nearby.

A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel said private agencies hired for catering or for sanitary management should not dispose waste other than at designated places.

India: Congress observes 'Kisan Vijay Diwas' (Farmers' Victory Day) in UP

Lucknow, Nov 20 (PTI) The Congress on Saturday observed "Kisan Vijay Diwas" in Uttar Pradesh, terming the repeal of Centre's three farm laws as the victory of farmers' struggle and paid homage to those who lost their lives during the agitation.

The party observed 'Kisan Vijay Diwas' all over the state to mark the victory of the farmers' struggle against the three laws, a party spokesman said.

India: RSS misleads people: Rajasthan CM Gehlot

Jaipur, Nov 20 (PTI) Accusing the RSS of misleading people, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday dared it to merge itself with the BJP and come out in open to fight on the basis of ideology.

He said the RSS calls itself a cultural organisation and claims no interest in politics but the RSS members mislead people and support the BJP.
