India: 66 medical students test Covid-19 positive in Karnataka

Dharwad (Karn), Nov 25 (PTI) Two hostels of SDM College of Medical Sciences and Hospital here have been sealed, with 66 medical students studying there having tested positive for COVID-19, officials said on Thursday.

About 300 out of the total 400 students studying in the medical college have undergone COVID tests so far.

According to officials, a students' event almost a week ago might have resulted in the spread, as they advised people to avoid attending programmes like marriage, functions, and cultural gatherings.

India: NFHS survey finds more women than men in the country

New Delhi, Nov 25 (PTI) Indicating a demographic shift, the number of women surpassed men for the first time in India with the sex ratio being 1,020: 1,000, according to findings of the National Family and Health Survey-5.

"With this, we can say India moves in the league of the developed countries - as the sex ratio crosses 1000," a health ministry official said, attributing it to measures taken for women empowerment such as financial inclusion and for combating gender bias and disparities.

India: Nadda is trying to fool people of Goa: Mahua Moitra

Panaji, Nov 25 (PTI) Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra on Thursday accused BJP president J P Nadda of trying to fool the people of Goa.

Addressing a press conference here, Moitra hit back at Nadda over his comments about crime in TMC-ruled West Bengal.

It is ironic that Mr Nadda has come today, and instead of focusing on what he does best, that is sticking to Delhi and speaking about what Mr Modi (prime minister Narendra Modi) is doing, he is wasting his time convincing the people of Goa that they should be fooled, she said.

India: ED attaches asset of Shiv Sena MP Gawali's aide

New Delhi, Nov 25 (PTI) The Enforcement Directorate on Thursday said it has attached an office building worth Rs 3.75 crore of Saeed Khan, an arrested aide of Shiv Sena MP Bhavana Gawali, in connection with a money laundering investigation.

It said an office premise in Mumbai's Nariman Point area has been attached as part of a provisional order issued under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

India, UK agree to deepen cooperation in cyber domain

New Delhi, Nov 25 (PTI) India and the UK on Thursday agreed to deepen cooperation in dealing with various challenges emanating from the cyber domain.

At the first meeting of the India-UK Joint Working Group on Cyber Deterrence, the two sides decided to work closely to jointly develop strategies to counter the emerging challenges.

India: Woman raped in moving car in UP's Mathura

Mathura, Nov 25 (PTI) A 21-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a man in a moving car while they were travelling from Agra, police said on Thursday.

A day after the incident, the woman allegedly attempted to end her life by consuming poison. However, her condition is now stable, a senior police officer said.

The incident took place on Tuesday, when the accused accompanied the woman to Agra for her to appear in a sub-inspector recruitment exam. She was allegedly raped while returning, he said.

India: Magnitude 6.1 quake jolts northeast

Guwahati, Nov 26 (PTI) A 6.1 magnitude earthquake rocked the northeast region, including Assam and Mizoram, in the early hours of Friday, the National Seismology Department said.

There has been no report of loss of life or damage to property so far.

The quake was epicentered near the boundary with Myanmar near Mizorm, as per data shared by the department.

It was recorded at 5.15 am, at a depth of 35 km, the data showed.

The tremors were felt in several places in Assam, Mizoram, Manipur and Tripura.

India: BSP not to attend Constitution Day programmes, Central and State gov not following it: Mayawati

Lucknow, Nov 26 (PTI) BSP president Mayawati on Friday asked the Central and state governments to seriously ponder if they are following the Constitution in the true spirit, and announced that her party will not take part in the programmes being organised on Constitution Day.

The benefits given to SC/STs by the Constitution have not reached these sections, she lamented.

India: Rahul Gandhi greets people on Constitution Day

New Delhi, Nov 26 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday greeted the people of the country on Constitution Day, and said it is the responsibility of all to ensure that justice and rights are equal for all.

Constitution Day is celebrated to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution by the Constituent Assembly in 1949.

"Justice and rights should be equal for all so that the Constitution does not become just a paper, it is the responsibility of all of us," Gandhi said in a tweet in Hindi.

India: Man held for raping 'minor' in UP's Ballia

Ballia (UP), Nov 26 (PTI) A 27-year-old man has been arrested here for allegedly raping a minor on pretext of marriage, police said on Friday.

The arrest came on Thursday on complaint of a 22-year-old woman, who alleged that the accused raped her for two years beginning in 2014 promising her that he will marry her, they said.

She alleged she was 15 when the accused first raped her and he continued to do so for the next two years.
