India: Man held for raping woman, kidnapping girl

New Delhi, May 6 (PTI) A 22-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a woman and kidnapping a minor girl, police said on Friday.

The accused has been identified as Vijay alias Gangu, a resident of Jaipur in Rajasthan, they said.

On April 28, a complaint was received at Vasant Kunj South police station wherein the complainant accused Vijay of rape and incarceration, police said.

Thereafter, a case under relevant sections of law was registered and investigation was taken up, they added.

India: Three RSS workers held for Subair murder case in Kerala

Palakkad, May 6 (PTI) The Kerala Police on Friday arrested three RSS workers in connection with the murder case of Subair, a Popular Front of India (PFI) activist at Elappully near here last month.

Police said they have arrested Suchithran, Gireesh and Jineesh from the district itself.

Subair was murdered allegedly by RSS workers on April 15, five months after a local sangh parivar leader S Sanjith was murdered in the same area allegedly by Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) activists.

India: Man held for raping minor girl in UP village

Budaun, May 7 (PTI) A 20-year-old man has been arrested for alleged raping a minor girl in a village in Islamnagar Police Station area, police said on Saturday.

The incident took place Friday evening, when the 13-year-old girl was playing with her friends, and the accused entered her house and allegedly raped her, they said.

The accused was caught by neighbours and others when her playmates told her brother about the incident who raised an alarm and drew their attention, Superintendent of Police (rural) Siddhartha Verma said.

India: Woman raped, assaulted by youth in UP

Shravasti (UP), May 7 (PTI) A 40-year-old widow was allegedly raped and severely beaten up by a youth in the Sonwa area of this Uttar Pradesh district, police said on Saturday.

The woman had gone to a nearby house in her village for some work on Friday when the youth there allegedly raped and beat her up badly, they said, adding she suffered injuries in her face and head and her eyesight was also damaged.

Superintendent of Police Arvind Kumar Maurya said the youth raped the woman and assaulted her, causing injuries on her face and head.

India: Four teenagers drown while bathing into Ganga river

Kanpur: Four teenagers drowned while bathing in the Ganga river on Friday, police said.

According to police, a group of seven friends from Kanpur had come to bathe in the river but slipped into deep water.

Hearing their audible cries, locals rushed to help and rescued three of them but the others drowned, police said.

The bodies have been fished out and handed over to Kanpur Police, Additional Superintendent of Police Shashi S Singh said.

Those who died have been identified as Arslan Ansari (17), Akid (16), Ayas (17) and Rehan (17), police said. 

India: Court sentences man to 10 years in prison for raping minor in UP's Ballia

Ballia, May 6 (PTI) A man was sentenced to 10 years' rigorous imprisonment by a court here for raping a 17-year-old girl three years ago.

Additional District Judge Onkar Shukla on Thursday also imposed a fine of Rs 40,000 on the convict Ramesh Rajbhar.

Rajbhar had raped the girl at her residence on April 22, 2019, according to joint director of prosecution department Suresh Pathak.

India: BJP worker found dead in Kolkata, Amit Shah to visit his home

Kolkata, May 6 (PTI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is on a two-day visit to West Bengal, will visit the home of a BJP worker who died in "mysterious" circumstances at Kashipur area of north Kolkata on Friday.

The body of Arjun Chowrasia, a BJP Yuva Morcha leader of the Kashipur area, was found hanging inside an abandoned building in Ghosh Bagan area, police said.

India: Punjab Police arrests Delhi BJP leader Tajinder Bagga

New Delhi/Chandigarh, May 6 (PTI) The Punjab Police on Friday said it has arrested Delhi BJP spokesperson Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga from his residence in the national capital in connection with a case registered against him in Mohali last month.

However, vehicles bringing Bagga, who has been highly vocal against Kejriwal on social media, from Delhi to Mohali got held up in Haryana's Kurukshetra. Sources said that Haryana police officials were talking to their Punjab counterparts over some issues.

India: Rahul Gandhi attacks govt over WHO Covid death numbers

New Delhi, May 6 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday attacked the government over a WHO report which claimed that there were 4.7 million Covid deaths in India, saying "science does not lie, Prime Minister Narendra Modi does".

Gandhi also demanded that the government should support the families that have lost loved ones by giving them the mandated Rs four lakh compensation.
