India: Demolition of Dalit temple reflects "casteist mentality"

Lucknow Aug 14 (PTI) BSP president Mayawati on Wednesday alleged that the demolition of the Ravidas temple in Delhi's Tughlaqabad area was a result of a collusion between the Centre and Delhi government and reflected a "casteist mentality".

She also demanded that the temple be reconstructed.

India: Shah Faesal sent back to Kashmir from Delhi, detained under PSA in Srinagar

Srinagar, Aug 14 (PTI) Former IAS officer Shah Faesal was detained by authorities at the Delhi airport on Wednesday and sent back to Kashmir, officials said.

Faesal was again detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA) on his arrival in Srinagar, they said.

He was bound for Istanbul, the officials added.

India: J-K Governor's invitation to Rahul Gandhi was never sincere

New Delhi, Aug 14 (PTI) Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Wednesday hit out at Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik, saying his invitation to Rahul Gandhi to visit the state was a "tool of propaganda" and never sincere.

He said alleging that Rahul Gandhi has put conditions is rubbish, as he only asked for freedom to meet everyone, including soldiers.

India: J-K to host investors meet on October 12 in Srinagar

Jammu, Aug 13 (PTI) Seeking to woo businesses to Jammu and Kashmir after scrapping of Article 370, the state administration on Tuesday announced a three-day global investors summit to be held in Srinagar from October 12.

The meet will provide J-K an opportunity to showcase its strengths, strategies and potential, the state's Principal Secretary (Industries), Naveen Choudhary, told reporters here.

India's Chandrayaan-2 leaves earth's orbit, moving towards moon

Bengaluru, Aug 14 (PTI) India's second moon mission 'Chandrayaan-2' left the earth's orbit early on Wednesday, 23 days after being launched, and is moving towards the moon following the successful completion of a crucial manoeuvre by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

The Bengaluru-headquartered space agency said it has carried out a manoeuvre called 'Trans Lunar Insertion' (TLI) at 2:21 am on Wednesday, following which the spacecraft has successfully entered the Lunar Transfer Trajectory.

India: Three govt offices in UP fined for breeding mosquitoes

Noida (UP), Aug 14 (PTI) Three government offices here have been penalised for not maintaining proper cleanliness leading to breeding of mosquitoes on their premises, according to District Health Department officials.

The penalty has been imposed on City Magistrate office in Sector 19, local election office in Sector 18 and the district Transport office in Sector 34, the officials said.

India: Auto stocks tumble to 9 pc as sales lowest in 19 yrs

New Delhi, Aug 13 (PTI) Auto stocks tumbled up to 9 per cent on Tuesday after industry body SIAM reported that automobile sales in India witnessed sharpest decline in nearly 19 years in July, dropping 18.71 per cent, rendering almost 15,000 workers jobless over the past two-three months.

Shares of Motherson Sumi Systems tanked 8.94 per cent, Bharat Forge fell 6.13 per cent, M&M plunged 6.11 per cent, Bosch fell 5.43 per cent, Eicher Motors declined 5.31 per cent and TVS Motor Company fell 5.07 per cent.

Kashmir’s main city a maze of razor wire and steel barriers

SRINAGAR, India (AP) — The main city in the India-administered part of the disputed Himalayan region of Kashmir has turned into a vast maze of razor wire coils and steel barricades as drones and helicopters hover overhead.

Wearing flak jackets and riot gear, paramilitary soldiers carry automatic rifles and shotguns to control the network of checkpoints and barricades across roads, lanes and intersections in Srinagar. The few vehicles and pedestrians allowed through are regulated through this maze.

Int'l cricket matches to be held by year's end at Green Park

Kanpur: By the year's end there will be an international match at Green Park, said the UP sports minister Chetan Chauhan. He disclosed this point while inaugurating the Yoga centre, shooting range, and astroturf at the stadium. 

The cricket lovers of the city have not enjoyed international cricket matches for a long time. They were expecting that whatever hurdles were there, it would be sorted out as soon as possible. It was only then the cricket fans would find time to enjoy the foreign cricketers at the stadium.
