India: Gurgaon SHO held for raping woman

Gurgaon, Aug 11 (PTI) A station house officer of a Gurgaon police station has been arrested for allegedly raping and then blackmailing a woman by making her obscene video, police said on Sunday.

The accused SHO of Sadar police station Dalbir Singh, who was set to retire next year, was arrested on Saturday after a complaint was lodged on Friday.

He was arrested after an internal inquiry found him guilty, a police officer said.

India: Metro employee commits suicide; streams it live on FB

New Delhi, Aug 11 (PTI) An employee of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation allegedly committed suicide on Sunday by hanging himself in his rented house here and streamed the act live on Facebook, police said.

The victim, Shubhankar Chakraborty (27), hailed from North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, they said.

India: Man booked on rape charge

Jaipur, Aug 11 (PTI) A man was booked for allegedly raping a 30-year-old married woman and threatening to circulate her video on the Internet, police said here on Sunday.

A case was registered against Sanjay Sahu on Saturday after the woman filed a plea in the court, said Raghuveer Singh, a constable at the Kho-Nagorian police station.

He said the case was registered under IPC Sections 354 (molestation), 376 (rape), 384 (extortion) and 509 (outraging women modesty).

Investigation into the case is on.

Indian envoy to Pakistan Ajay Bisaria returns

New Delhi, Aug 11 (PTI) Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan Ajay Bisaria has returned to India, days after Islamabad expelled him following its decision to downgrade diplomatic ties over the withdrawal of special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

Sources said Bisaria is back in Delhi as Pakistan did not heed to India's request to review its decision to downgrade diplomatic ties.

India: 46 arrested NC leaders, prisoners shifted from J-K to UP jail

Srinagar, Aug 11 (PTI) National Conference leader and former minister Ali Mohammad Sagar, who was arrested a few days ago in Jammu and Kashmir, was on Sunday shifted to a jail in Uttar Pradesh, officials said.

Sagar is the first mainstream political leader being sent out of Jammu and Kashmir as part of a government plan to shift prisoners to jails outside the state.

He has been shifted to a jail in Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, an official said.

India: Flood toll in Karnataka rises to 40, 14 still missing

Bengaluru, Aug 11 (PTI) Nine more people have died in rain related incidents in Karnataka, taking the toll to 40 as the flood situation remained grim in the state.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah conducted an aerial survey of flood affected areas in Belagavi district and Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa joined him in the exercise.

India: CBSE hikes Class 10, 12 exam fees

New Delhi, Aug 11 (PTI) The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has increased the fees of Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations by up to Rs 1,150, the first hike in the last five years, according to board officials.

The fees for general category students for both Class 10 and 12 have been doubled from Rs 750 to Rs 1,500 for five subjects.

India: Home Minister Amit Shah extends Eid greetings to people

New Delhi, Aug 12 (PTI) Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday extended his greetings on the occasion of Eid al-Adha and hoped for peace and happiness for all.

"Greetings on the occasion of Eid al-Adha. May everyone be blessed with joy, peace and happiness," Shah said in a tweet.

Eid al-Adha is celebrated across India on Monday.
