India: Girl gang raped inside moving car in UP

Azamgarh (UP), Sep 24 (PTI) A 16 year-old girl was allegedly gangraped by two men in a moving car at a village under Saraimeer police station area here, police said on Tuesday.

The girl, a student of class XI, was returning from school when she was abducted by the two youth who raped her and later threw her near a pond on Saturday, SP Triveni Singh said.

The girl somehow reached home and narrated the incident. An FIR was registered on Sunday and both the youth, identified as Sikander and Rishi, have been arrested, the SP said.

India: Court rejects rape accused BJP leader Chinmayanand's bail

Shahjahanpur (UP), Sep 24 (PTI) An Uttar Pradesh court has rejected the bail application of BJP leader Swami Chinmayanand, who was arrested in a sexual-assault case following rape allegations by a law student.

Shahjahanpur chief judicial magistrate has rejected the bail application of Chinmayanand on Monday, saying it should be moved in the sessions court, the former Union minister's counsel, Om Singh, said on Tuesday.

India: 4-yr-old raped in Navi Mumbai

Mumbai, Sep 24 (PTI) A four-year-girl was allegedly raped by a man when she went to play outside her house in Maharashtra's Navi Mumbai township, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place on Sunday in Taloja area, located around 35 km from here, following which the accused, Ashok Kumar Yadav (24), was arrested, a police official said.

When the girl was playing outside her house, Yadav, a daily wage labourer who stayed nearby, allegedly lured the girl on some pretext and took her to a secluded place where he raped her, he said.

India: Man gets 10-year jail term for raping minor in Karnataka

Mangaluru, Sep 24 (PTI) A court here has sentenced a 34-year old man to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for raping and impregnating a minor girl in 2014.

B R Pallavi, judge of second Additional District and Sessions court here, which is also the special POCSO court, also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Santhosh, resident of Bantwal in Dakshina Kannada district.

Muzaffarpur (Bihar), Sep 24 (PTI) BJP's rabble-rouser Union minister Giriraj Singh on Tuesday hinted he may hang up his boots at the end of the current Modi government's tenure, and virtually ruled himself out of contention for chief ministership after the assembly polls next year.

He was responding to questions at a press conference where he was asked to comment on the growing demand in a section of the BJP about reconsidering JD(U)'s Nitish Kumar as the NDA's chief ministerial face during the next assembly elections.

Mamallapuram (TN), Sep 22 (PTI) The historic shore temple and five rathas here are all set to get enlivened with world class lighting and a dash of fresh green with pruned trees and trimmed landscape for the summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping next month.

The historic locations, with a proposed add-on feature of top class illumination, is expected to provide a perfect setting for a memorable photo opportunity to the top leaders, official sources told PTI.

The illumination fixtures are likely be temporary.

India: Akbaruddin Owaisi appointed as Telangana PAC Chairman

Hyderabad, Sept 22 (PTI) The floor leader of AIMIM in Telangana assembly Akabaruddin Owaisi was appointed as the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Sunday.

Congress MLAs D Sridhar Babu and Sandra Venkata Veeraiah of TDP are among the members of PAC.

The Congress lost its status as the main Opposition party after 12 of its 18 members joined the ruling TRS party, as per a notification issued by the Speaker's office in June.

India: Gorkhas not to visit Foreigners' Tribunals to prove Indian citizenship

Guwahati, Sept 22 (PTI) The Gorkhas, whose names have been exluded from the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam, will not visit Foreigners' Tribunals to prove their Indian citizenship, a community body said on Sunday.

Addressing a press conference here, Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangha (BGP) national president Sukhman Moktan said that Gorkhas being tried in the Foreigners' Tribunals (FT) will be an "insult to us for being Indians," he said.

Amaravati (AP), Sep 22 (PTI) Elite Greyhounds of Andhra Pradesh police on Sunday killed three members of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) in an encounter in Visakhapatnam district on the AP-Odisha border, police said.

Additional Director General of Police (Greyhounds) Nalin Prabhat said the operation was based on a confirmed intelligence and the anti-Maoist force was in relentless pursuit of the Maoists despite heavy rains, thick vegetation and very rough terrain in the eastern ghat.
