India: RBI imposes restrictions on PMC Bank; withdrawal restricted to Rs 1,000 per account

Mumbai, Sep 24 (PTI) The Reserve Bank on Tuesday imposed operational restrictions on Punjab and Maharashtra Co-operative Bank (PMC Bank), resulting in chaos outside its branches in the financial capital.

As per the RBI directions to PMC Bank, withdrawals have been capped at Rs 1,000 per account and the bank is not allowed to make any fresh loans.

Gandhians, social activists to take out year-long march from Delhi to Geneva

India: Guj 'fart competition' fails as no one passes wind

Ahmedabad, Sep 23 (PTI) A 'fart competition' held on Sunday in Gujarat's Surat, touted as the country's first, turned out to be a lot of hot air, though not literally, as only three participants managed to overcome shyness and inhibitions to take a shot at the three trophies on offer.

They too, however, failed to pass muster after being unable to pass wind, an organiser said.

India: College student gangraped in Odisha

Bhawanipatna (Odisha), Sep 23 (PTI) A college student was allegedly gangraped inside a forest in Odisha's Kalahandi district and a probe has been launched to apprehend the culprits, police said on Monday.

The incident took place on the afternoon of September 14 near Junagarh, 25 km from here and the police swung into action after the woman lodged an FIR late on Sunday night, Kalahandi superintendent of police B Gangadhar said.

India: Man held for raping MBA job aspirant in Mumbai hotel

Mumbai, Sep 23 (PTI) A 25-year-old man was arrested in the early hours of Monday for allegedly raping a woman after she was called to a hotel room in Mumbai's Juhu area for a job interview, police said.

An official said Sahil Singh Arora, a native of Delhi, was held from a kin's residence following a tip-off.

"He had promised the victim, an MBA hailing from Uttar Pradesh, a job in the human resources department of a private bank. She was then asked to attend an interview in a hotel room where she was raped," he said.

Day is not far when PoK will be part of India: Singh

New Delhi, Sept 23 (PTI) The day is not far when Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) will be a part of India, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said on Monday.

The decision to abrogate Article 370 provisions was taken to restore the position of Jammu and Kashmir as it was when handed over by its last ruler Maharaja Hari Singh, he said.

On August 5, the central government ended the special status given to Jammu and Kashmir under the article and bifurcated it into Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh, which will come into being on October 31.

India: Criminal complaint against Bihar Minister, three others

Muzaffarpur, Sep 23 (PTI) A complaint has been filed against Bihar's Urban Development and Housing Minister Suresh Kumar Sharma and three others for allegedly causing harm and criminal breach of trust.

Laddu Sahni, chairman of the Block Fisheries Cooperative Society, filed the criminal complaint in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Suryakant Tiwary.

Muzaffarpur Mayor Suresh Kumar (Pappu), Municipal Commissioner Manesh Kumar Meena and councillor Gayatri Devi are three others named in the complaint by Sahni.

India: Two more Naxal terrorists gunned down in AP-Odisha border

Amaravati (AP), Sep 23 (PTI) Two Maoists were gunned down in an encounter with the elite Greyhounds of Andhra Pradesh Police in the Eastern Ghats forests of Visakhapatnam on Monday, a day after three ultras were killed in the region, officials said.

The two encounters within 24 hours come at a time when the outlawed CPI (Maoist) is celebrating its Formation Day, they said.
