India: Case against 150 unidentified people after Left students 'gherao' Mamata

Kolkata, Jan 15 (PTI) A suo motu case has been registered against 150 unidentified people after Left students' activists "gheraoed" Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at an anti-CAA rally in Kolkata on January 11, sources said on Wednesday.

The case includes non-bailable sections of causing damage, criminal intimidation, as well as assaulting a public servant from discharging duty, said a source at the Hare Street Police station where it was registered on Monday.

India: Over 5000 vehicles stranded as JK highway remains shut

Jammu, Jan 15 (PTI) Fresh landslides kept the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway shut for the third consecutive day on Wednesday, leaving over 5000 vehicles stranded.

"There were four fresh landslides in Digdol and Panthiyal belts on highway in Ramban district. The traffic on the highway remained closed for the third day today", a police officer told PTI.

India: AMU seeks registration of FIR against police excesses

Aligarh, Jan 15 (PTI) The Aligarh Muslim University has sought registration of an FIR against the police for allegedly indulging in excesses after entering a hostel on the night of December 15, officials said on Wednesday.

The move comes a month after violent clashes took place at the AMU.

AMU spokesperson Rahat Abrar told PTI, "The police is yet to register our FIR, although we have filed our complaint."

India plans new law to protect foreign investment - sources

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - India is planning a new law to safeguard foreign investment by speeding up dispute resolution, aiming to attract more capital from overseas to boost stuttering domestic growth, two officials with direct knowledge of the matter told Reuters.

In a 40-page initial draft, India’s finance ministry has proposed appointing a mediator and setting up fast-track courts to settle disputes between investors and the government, one of the sources said.

India: BJP ally LJP to fight on all seats in Delhi polls

New Delhi, Jan 14 (PTI) BJP ally Lok Janshakti Party announced on Tuesday that it will contest all the 70 seats in the Delhi Assembly polls scheduled for February 8 and released its first list of 15 candidates.

LJP leader Kali Pandey, who is the party's in-charge for the Delhi polls, said his party's alliance to the BJP was confined to Bihar and added that this was for the saffron party to decide if it wanted a tie-up in the national capital as well.
