India: Lord Hanuman was a sportsperson, says UP sports minister

Lucknow Dec 24 (PTI) Amid row over Lord Hanuman's identity, Uttar Pradesh's sports minister and former cricketer Chetan Chauhan has said that the Hindu deity was a sportsperson.

However, he dismissed his party colleagues' attempts at identifying Lord Hanuman's caste and said gods don't have castes.

Man freed from jail steals car from its parking lot

GREENSBURG, Pa. (AP) — Police say a Pennsylvania man released from jail immediately stole a car from its parking lot.

Westmoreland County Prison officials say that moments after 36-year-old Thomas Lee Williams was released, he attacked a woman in the parking lot Tuesday evening and stole her car with the victim’s 1-year-old in the back seat. The Tribune-Review reports Williams crashed about 15 minutes later and ran into the woods, where he was apprehended.

India: Monkey shot dead, buried in farm; FIR registered

Ballia (UP), Nov 17 (PTI) An FIR was registered against a person for allegedly shooting a monkey to death and burying it in a farm in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia district, police said Saturday.

The accused, Ram Narayan Ram, had shot the monkey dead and buried the animal in a farm outside Husenpur village in Sikandarpur area, the police said.

Acting on the complaint by the villagers on Tuesday, the forest department officials dug out the body and sent it for post-mortem, said Sikandarpur police station in-charge Anil Tiwari.

West Bengal to observe 'Rosogolla Day' on Nov 14

Kolkata, Nov 7 (PTI) West Bengal government decided to observe 'Rosogolla Day' on November 14, to commemorate the first anniversary of the state's famous sweet getting Geographical Indication (GI) tag as 'Bengal's Rosogolla', an official said Wednesday.

Different varieties of rosogollas would be showcased in the stalls of the 'Mishti Hub' (Sweetmeat Hub), set up in one part of the Eco Park in New Town area here, HIDCO Chairman Debasish Sen told PTI.

The Eco Park is managed by the West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO), a state PSU.

Man ‘stoned to death by monkeys’ in Uttar Pradesh - FIR lodged

A seventy year old man was stoned to death by a group of monkeys on October 17 in Tikri village.

According to Krishnapal Singh, the brother of the deceased, Dharampal was collecting woods when he was attacked by the monkeys. Bricks were thrown at his head and chest. Dharampal was admitted in hospital where he succumbed to injuries.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister announces Cow Minister

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced Cow Minister, a new portfolio in his ministry, to serve the cow better.

According to The Indian Minister, “Chouhan made the announcement in Khajuraho where a function to give awards to gaushalas was organised. The announcement comes days before the model code of conduct kicks-in the poll-bound state”.

Man arrested for chasing after plane at Dublin Airport

LONDON; 28 Sep 2018; (AP) — An Irish man who missed his flight at Dublin Airport was arrested Thursday for running after the plane on the tarmac in a bid to flag it down.

Witnesses said a man in his 20s broke through an airport door and ran toward the Ryanair plane, which was about to take off for Amsterdam, at around 7 a.m.

Declan Harvey, who was at the airport, said he could hear a man shouting “Wait!” at the plane before he was tackled to the ground by airport workers.

Anti-blind-faith father organises son’s birthday party in ‘shamshan’ - served meat

Pandary Nath Shinde, a member of Blind-faith Elimination Committee surprised everyone when he invited his relatives and friends to his son’s birth-day party in a ‘shamshan' where, among other food, meat was served.

Some members of the Hindu community did not appreciate Shinde’s actions, got together, and went to ‘shamshan’ to purify the place. They sprinkled cow urine and read mantras to cleanse the ‘shamshan’, to make it fit for the next cremation.

BJP worker washes MP Nishikant Dubey's feet, drinks the water

Godda (J'khand), Sep 17 (PTI) A Bharatiya Janata Party worker washed party MP Nishikant Dubey's feet and drank the water at a function in Jharkhand's Godda district, triggering an uproar.

The incident came to light when Dubey went to lay the foundation stone of a bridge at Kanbhara village in Godda block -- around 330 km from Ranchi -- on Sunday, with Pawan Kumar Sah washing the feat of the BJP MP on a metal plate and then gulping it.

Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh; 12 Sep 2018: CM of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chauhan, was scheduled to inaugurate a Medical College in Ratlam, but a Congress MLA decided to cut the ribbon and crack the coconut a day before.

It is alleged that Congress MLA Kantilal Bhuriya went to the Medical College with 14 other Congress leaders a day before the official inauguration of the college by Shivraj Singh Chauhan, and inaugurated the new Medical College by cutting the ribbon.
