Houthi Delegation In Jordan To Resume UN-Sponsored Yemeni Truce Talks

SANAA, Jul 1 (NNN-YPA) – Yemen’s Houthi group sent a delegation to Jordan’s capital, Amman to resume the UN-sponsored truce talks with the Yemeni government, the Houthi-run al-Masirah TV reported, yesterday.

The delegation would discuss violations of the ongoing truce and the opening of roads in Taiz.

There was no comment yet from the Yemeni government.

WFP further cuts food aid to Yemen, causing millions more Yemenis to starve

Millions more Yemenis are predicted to be at risk of starvation later this year, after the World Food Programme (WFP) announced further cuts to its food aid in Yemen.

The WFP made the announcement in a Twitter post yesterday, stating that "Critical funding gaps, global inflation and the knock-on effects of the war in Ukraine have forced WFP in Yemen to make some extremely tough decisions about the support we provide to our beneficiaries".

Pro-Gov’t Military Leader Shot Dead By Unidentified Gunmen In Yemen’s Marib

ADEN, Jun 26 (NNN-YPA) – Unidentified gunmen, shot dead a senior leader of Yemen’s newly-formed pro-government forces, in the country’s oil-rich province of Marib, a security official said.

The military commander, identified as Abdul-Razzaq Baqama, belonged to the newly-formed pro-government “Happy Yemen Brigades,” backed by Saudi Arabia, the source said, on condition of anonymity.

“Brigadier Baqama was found dead in his car, late on Friday night. He was shot by unknown gunmen’s automatic assault rifles,” said the security official.

UN agency facilitates return of 300 Ethiopian migrants stranded in Yemen

ADEN, Yemen, May 20 (Xinhua) -- The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Yemen said that it facilitated the return of 300 Ethiopian migrants from Yemen to their country this week.

"This week, IOM helped 300 Ethiopian migrants embark on two Voluntary Humanitarian Return (VHR) flights," the UN migration agency said in a tweet on Thursday.

The VHR flights are "the only safe and dignified pathway for migrants in Yemen to return home," IOM said, adding the program is a lifeline for migrants struggling to survive amid conflict.

Yemeni Gov’t Accuses Houthi Rebels Of Attacking Oil-Rich Marib Despite Truce

ADEN, May 15 (NNN-YPA) – The internationally-recognised Yemeni government, yesterday accused the Houthi rebels of attacking the oil-rich province of Marib, despite a two-month cease-fire, brokered by the United Nations.

“The Houthis launched a sniper operation, killing one member of the armed forces and injuring another, on the north-western front of Marib Province,” said the Yemeni defence ministry.

The statement accused the Houthis of committing a series of breaches, of the UN-brokered truce in various areas of the war-ravaged country.

Yemeni military official survives car bomb attack in Aden

ADEN, Yemen, May 15 (Xinhua) -- A senior official of Yemeni armed forces on Sunday survived a car bombing attack in the country's southern port city of Aden, a security official told Xinhua.

"The convoy of General Ali Saleh Hassan, chief of the Joint Military Operations Authority, was struck by a car bomb while passing through the main road in Aden's district of Al-Mualla," the local official said on condition of anonymity.

Based on initial information, the attack occurred around noon when a parked booby-trapped car exploded and targeted Saleh's convoy, he said.

UN Envoy Presses Yemeni Warring Factions To Uphold Ceasefire

ADEN, May 11 (NNN-YPA) – The United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, yesterday arrived in the southern Yemeni port city of Aden, for a two-day visit, amid efforts to push the country’s warring parties to uphold a fragile UN-brokered ceasefire.

Grundberg held meetings with Rashad Al-Alimi, president of the Presidential Leadership Council and other high-ranking officials of the internationally-recognised Yemeni government in Aden, over the recent breaches to the UN-brokered truce.

Suspected Al-Qaeda Gunmen Attack Security Headquarters In Southern Yemen

ADEN, May 7 (NNN-YPA) – Suspected al-Qaeda gunmen, attacked a security headquarters in Yemen’s southern province of Dhalea last night, a government official said.

“Intense armed confrontations are still going on between the security forces and the al-Qaeda suspects, in and around the security headquarters in Dhalea, amid large explosions,” the local official said.

The gunmen’s attack on the security headquarters, that includes a prison, is aimed to free al-Qaeda inmates, he added.

Yemen: Saudi-led coalition says it will release 163 Houthi prisoners

28 April 2022; MEMO: The Saudi Arabian-led coalition fighting in Yemen said, on Thursday, it would release 163 prisoners from Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthi group who fought against the Kingdom, as part of a humanitarian initiative, Reuters reports.

The coalition had already begun taking measures to release the prisoners in coordination with the International Committee of the Red Cross, added a statement on the Saudi state news agency, SPA.

Al-Qaeda Commander Killed In Operation In SE Yemen

ADEN, Apr 24 (NNN-YPA) – A senior commander of the Yemen-based al-Qaeda branch was killed yesterday, in a shootout with local security forces, in Yemen’s south-eastern province of Hadramout, a security official said.

The gun battle took place in the Sudaf area of Hadramout, when a unit of local security forces conducted an operation on an intelligence tip-off and raided an al-Qaeda hideout in the area, the local security source said.
