UAE accused of bombing government forces in eastern Yemen

16 August 2022; MEMO: Drones believed to belong to the UAE targeted Yemen army posts in the Shabwa governorate in the east of the country on Monday, local sources and activists have reported.

One anonymous source told Arabi 21 that the UAE's bombing of government forces paved the way for militias loyal to Abu Dhabi to expand their area of control towards the international highway linking the Shabwa and Hadhramout governorates from the south, and Marib from the north.

Yemeni Gov’t Says Four Soldiers Killed By Houthis Despite Truce

ADEN, Aug 15 (NNN-YPA) – Yemen’s internationally-recognised government, announced yesterday that, four of its soldiers were killed by the Houthi rebel militia, despite the ongoing truce, brokered by the United Nations(UN) in the war-ravaged country.

According to a statement released by the Aden-based government, the Iranian-backed Houthi militia, committed 235 violations of the UN armistice in eight provinces, in the past three days.

Officials: Floods in Yemen kill at least 38 people in 2 days

SANAA, Yemen (AP) — Torrential rains across southwestern Yemen and the country’s capital of Sanaa have triggered flashfloods and collapsed homes, killing at least 38 people over the past two days, officials said Thursday.

Scores of homes in Sanaa and the provinces of Dhamar and Ibb have completely collapsed or have been significantly damaged, said the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.

UN Says Yemeni Warring Parties Agree To Renew Truce

ADEN, Aug 3 (NNN-YPA) – The United Nations announced yesterday that, Yemen’s internationally-recognised government and the Houthi militia, have agreed to renew the ongoing nationwide truce for another two months.

“I am pleased to announce that the parties have agreed to extend the truce, under the same terms, for an additional two months from Aug 2 until Oct 2,” UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg said, in a written statement released on the UN website.

02 August 2022; MEMO: Yemen's warring sides agreed to renew a two-month truce expiring on Tuesday, the United Nations Envoy said, despite international pressure for an extended and expanded deal that would build on the longest stretch of relative calm in over seven years, Reuters reports.

"This truce extension includes a commitment from the parties to intensify negotiations to reach an expanded truce agreement as soon as possible," Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, said in a statement.

Yemen’s Presidential Council Appoints Four Ministers

ADEN, Jul 29 (NNN-YPA) – Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), yesterday appointed four ministers, including a war-worn veteran, who will head the Saudi-backed Yemeni government’s Defence Ministry.

Mohsen Mohammed Hussein al-Daeri, who has led several military campaigns against the Houthi rebels, in the country’s northern provinces, and had been injured during the years of offensive, will lead the Defence Ministry, said a statement, released by state-run Saba news.

Yemeni Houthis Killed Nine Gov’t Soldiers During Ceasefire: Military Official

ADEN, Jul 18 (NNN-YPA) – Nine Yemeni soldiers were killed by the Houthis, during the past 48 hours, a military official said, accusing the militia of breaching the ceasefire.

“The Houthi militia breached the ceasefire, brokered by the United Nations, and launched a number of attacks against the government-controlled sites in Yemen,” the local military source said, on condition of anonymity.

The attacks involved scores of attacks using explosive-laden drones and artillery shells in various regions, he added.

UN Security Council unanimously extends Yemen mission for 1 year

13 July 2022; MEMO: The UN Security Council voted unanimously Wednesday to extend the international community's special political mission in Yemen, Anadolu News Agency reports.

The authorities were set to expire 15 July, but the vote extends the UN Mission to Support the Hudaydah Agreement (UNMHA) for one year.
