India: Journalist shot dead in UP

Ballia (UP), Aug 24 (PTI) A journalist working with a Hindi news channel was on Monday night shot dead in Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh, police said.

He has been identified as Ratan Singh (45).

"A journalist working with a Hindi news channel was shot dead on Monday night in Phephana. He has been identified as Ratan Singh (45), Additional Superintendent of Police Sanjay Yadav said.

Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi said four people, Dinesh Singh, Arvind Singh, Suneel Singh and Moti Singh, have been arrested in this connection.

India: Couple kills 7-year-old daughter in UP

Bareilly, Aug 23 (PTI) In a gruesome incident, a man with the help of his second wife allegedly killed his seven-year-old daughter and buried her in his house, police said here on Sunday.

Izzatnagar police station SHO K K Verma said Ravi Babu, a resident of Aalok Nagar, had married Ritu after the death of his first wife almost two years ago.

India: 14 cows run over by goods train in UP's Bareilly

Bareilly, Aug 22 (PTI) Around 14 cows were run over by a goods train in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly district on Saturday, an official said.

Sub-divisional magistrate, Aonla, KK Singh said around 14 cows were run over by a goods train near Bisharatganj station on the Bareilly-Chandausi rail line in the morning.

The SDM also said two seriously injured cows have been sent for medical treatment while the dead cows have been buried.

India: Two arrested for raping woman co-worker

Muzaffarnagar, Aug 23 (PTI) Two employees of an inter-college in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district were arrested for allegedly raping a woman colleague and making a video of the crime to blackmail her, police said on Sunday.

They were arrested after the woman lodged a police complaint, Station House Officer (SHO) Karmvir Singh said.

The woman has alleged that the two men had raped her and were blackmailing her with the video, police said.

The incident took place at Kandhla town in the district.

India: Truck kills 6 stray cattle in UP's Banda

Banda, Aug 23 (PTI) Six stray cattle were killed and as many injured after a speeding truck ran over them at a village here, police said on Sunday.

The truck driver has been arrested and a case registered, they said.

The incident occurred on the Banda-Tanda road in Sahinga village on Saturday, Station House Officer of the Tindwari police station Neeraj Kumar Singh said.

He said veterinary doctors have buried the dead cattle after conducting post-mortem.

India: Jajmau drenches, brings cool air after rains today

Kanpur: It rained heavily for a short time in Jajmau on Saturday afternoon.

As the rains came heavily upon the people drenching them within a few seconds, they did not feel it unpleasant.

What the residents of tannery town were waiting for the past days patiently, it happened at about 2 p.m.

Rain-soaked people and roads on the Ganga bridge in Jajmau were worth looking.

India: Pits & trenches on Highways need repairing

Kanpur: These days unnecessary traffic jams on the Highways are proving to be a headache for Traffic police.

The problem arises owing to fatal pits on the Highways passing through the city.

There is no dearth of pits, trenches on the roads extending from Jajmau Pul to Ramadevi. The bridge is also covered with an awful view.

Almost every day there remain jams on the road extending from Jajmau to Rama Devi. The smaller stones are scattered all over the road. Waterlogging into the pits can also be seen.

India: Cop suspended for beating up priest in UP's Barabanki

Barabanki (UP), Aug 21 (PTI) Barabanki Superintendent of Police Arvind Chaturvedi on Friday suspended a policeman and ordered an inquiry after pictures of policemen allegedly beating up a 'purohit' were being shared on social media.

Sarvesh Kumar Misra, the priest, has alleged that he and his associates suffered injuries when police beat them up over an issue in Bansa village under Masauli police station area of the district.
