India: Man sentenced to death in UP for raping 10-year-old girl

Firozabad (UP), Apr 1 (PTI) A special POCSO court here on Thursday sentenced a man to death for raping a 10-year-old girl in December 2020, disposing of the case in a record three and a half months.

Additional Sessions Judge Mridul Dubey, heading the special court set up under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, sentenced the accused, Neeraj, a resident of a village under Jasrana police station, to death after convicting him of the offence of rape.

India: 'Beach impresses but sea waves frighten in Goa'

Kanpur: Sharing her experience about Goa visit after marriage one young woman told that the beach looks impressive for its vast expanse but the strange fear dominates the mind standing near the sea waves all the time. The rise and fall of seawater become quite dreary during the night. " I was too scared with standing near the shore as the full force of water appeared like pulling me into the sea," the lady maintained adding that her husband kept on saying not to fear but it was not possible for her.

India: 20 cases listened to first court at Kanpur Police Lines

Kanpur: As many as 20 cases were attended at the first temporary court held at Police Lines conference hall here on Wednesday. It was held following district declared as police commissionerate.

According to reports a total of 25 accused were present before the court. Decision was taken in view of severity of cases. Bail was also granted in various cases.

ACP Dr Manoj Kumar said that the process would be improved sooner. 

India: UP Schools shut till April 4

Lucknow, Mar 30 (PTI) Amid a spike in coronavirus cases, the Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday extended to April 4 the closure of all schools for students up to Class 8, according to an official.

Earlier, the state government had shut schools for students up to Class 8 till March 31.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath issued the fresh directions during a review meeting at his 5-Kalidas Marg residence here.

India: Ambedkar's statue found damaged in UP

Ballia (UP), Mar 30 (PTI) A statue of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar was found damaged at a village here, leading to a protest by members of the local Dalit community, police said on Tuesday.

The statue in Khunta village was vandalised by some "anti-social elements" in the early hours of Monday, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Bilthara Road, Sarvesh Yadav said.

The SDM and police officials pacified the protesters, assuring that a new statue would be installed at the earliest.

India: 2 held for gang rape of minor in UP's Kaushambi

Kaushambi (UP), Mar 28 (PTI) Two men were arrested here on Sunday in connection with the alleged gang-rape of a girl, police said.

Additional Superintendent of Police Samar Bahadur Singh said the incident took place on March 25, when the girl, aged around 15, had gone to collect fodder for animals.

The girl lodged a police complaint on Saturday, the additional SP said, adding she was sent for medical examination.

The accused were arrested on Sunday and sent to jail, Singh said.

India: NCERT books need to be part of school curriculum

Kanpur: As the new academic session is going to begin from the first week of the month of April, the parents are flocking to the shop for buying the books. The book list is also available at the shop.

As the parents were confident of buying the NCERT books for the main subjects, they learnt of the titles published by private publications.

The disturbed parents said that the price of the NCERT books is always within reach. But private publications are seldom cheaper. Why have school authorities not checked it?

Kanpur: Villagers were looking at deep surprise as a helicopter landed in the fields near an engineering college in Sarsaul here on Saturday morning.

It was certainly not docked due to any technical flaw in the engine or any other problem. At first, the rural residents did not understand what actually was the reason for the helicopter's landing.

India: Police Commissioner assures of better law and order in Kanpur

Kanpur: Joining as the first police commissioner Aseem Arun, IPS, said there would be taken efforts to heighten the city's prestige. Better traffic, better law and order situation will be established. Police will be careful towards the common public. More officers will produce quality works. 

Making his points clear he maintained that organised crime would be eliminated. Strict action will be initiated against the land mafia, and liquor mafia.

India: UP girl found dead with her throat slit

Ballia (UP), Mar 26 (PTI) A 19-year-old woman was found dead with her throat slit in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia on Friday, police said.

The accused, Dhyanu Paswan, has been arrested, they said.

"Paswan, a resident of Bhagav village in Sahatwar area has been arrested along with the weapon used in the crime. He loved the woman but was upset as she had agreed to marry another person with whom her family members had fixed her marriage," Additional SP, Sanjay Yadav said.
