India: Teen girl raped in UP's Ballia

Ballia (UP), Apr 6 (PTI) A teenage girl was allegedly raped by a youth in a village in Garwar area here, police said on Tuesday.

The 16-year-old girl was raped on Sunday by a 24-year-old man and an FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on Monday, Garwar police station SHO Rajiv Kumar Singh said.

The FIR stated that she was raped while returning from her field. Police is on the lookout to arrest the absconding accused.

India: Train travelling traps into complications of Coronavirus

India: Woman beaten to death by husband in UP

Budaun (UP), Apr 4 (PTI) A 25-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by her husband using a belt in Bilsi area here, police said on Sunday.

The incident took place on Saturday, they said.

Superintendent of Police (rural) Siddhartha Verma said Rajesh killed his wife Premlata over domestic dispute.

The accused has been arrested, police said.

According to a complaint filed by the deceased's brother, the accused used to often beat his sister.

India: Youth held for rape bid in UP

Shahjahanpur (UP), Apr 4 (PTI) Police arrested a youth for allegedly attempting to rape a three-year-old girl while she was playing outside her house at a village here on Sunday, an official said.

Jalalabad Circle Officer Massa Singh said the accused lured her by showing a Rs 10 note and took her to a deserted place.

The accused tried to rape the girl but she raised a cry. Family members of the girl reached the spot on hearing her cries and the accused fled.

India: Confusion persists on date and mode of school opening & teaching

Kanpur: Confusion persists on the exact date of reopening of the schools here. The fear of coronavirus looms thereby compelling the authorities concerned to beat about the bush.

Some say teaching will commence from April 7 while news reports said the pedagogy begins from April 5. Strangely enough there was also reports of teaching from April 11. Different dates from sources close to the school authorities.

Ambiguity about the mode of teaching is another hitch. When the students approached to the teacher she did not mind in disclosing about it in later date.

India: Local BJP leader shot dead in UP's Gorakhpur

Gorakhpur, Apr 3 (PTI) A 52-year-old local BJP leader, a contestant in the panchayat elections in Narayanpur in Uttar Pradesh, was shot dead while he was returning home after attending a public meeting, police said on Saturday.

Three people were detained following the killing of Brijesh Singh on Friday night in the Moglaha area. The fourth accused is at large, they said.

Singh was shot around 11 pm and was rushed to the BRD Medical College, where doctors declared him dead, police said.

India: Three detained on gang-rape charge in UP

Shahjahanpur (UP), Apr 3 (PTI) Three men have been detained in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 25-year-old woman in this district, police said on Saturday.

The alleged gang-rape took place on March 22 in a village under Mirzapur police station limits, they said.

Jalalabad Circle Officer (CO) Massa Singh said the woman was abducted by the three men when she had gone to the roof of her house to speak to her husband over the phone.

India: DRDO develops lightweight bullet-proof jacket

New Delhi, Apr 1 (PTI) The DRDO has developed a lightweight bullet-proof jacket that weighs nine kg and meets the qualitative requirements of the Indian Army, the defence ministry said on Thursday.

Kanpur-based Defence Materials and Stores Research and Development Establishment (DMSRDE), which is one of the laboratories of the government-run Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), has developed this jacket, a ministry statement said.
