Israel president makes first visit to the UAE

30 Jan 2022; MEMO: Israeli President Isaac Herzog arrived in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Sunday for his first visit to the Gulf nation, Anadolu reports.

Herzog and his wife were welcomed upon arrival at Abu Dhabi Airport by Emirati Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, the official Israeli KAN channel reported.

"This morning, I am embarking on a historic trip to the United Arab Emirates," Herzog said in a statement issued by his office before leaving to the UAE.

UAE intercepts Yemen missile as Israeli president visits

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The United Arab Emirates intercepted a ballistic missile fired by Yemen’s Houthi rebels early Monday as the Israeli president visited the country, authorities said, the third such attack in recent weeks.

The attack amid President Isaac Herzog’s visit only fuels the ongoing tensions affecting the wider Persian Gulf, which has seen a series of attacks as Iran’s nuclear deal with world powers collapsed and Yemen’s yearslong war raged.

Israel supports UAE security needs, president says on first visit

DUBAI, Jan 30 (Reuters) - Israel's president, making his first visit on Sunday to the United Arab Emirates, said his country supports the Gulf state's security needs and wants more countries in the region to join its new detente with the Arab world.

The UAE, along with Bahrain, signed U.S.-brokered normalisation agreements with Israel, dubbed the "Abraham Accords", in 2020. The two Gulf states and Israel share concerns about Iran and its regional allies.

26 Jan 2022; MEMO: The United Arab Emirates public prosecutors' office said, on Wednesday, it had summoned several people for sharing videos showing defence systems intercepting Monday's missile attack by Yemen's Houthi Movement, Reuters reports.

The UAE, the region's commercial and tourism hub, rarely discusses its security in public but had confirmed the two Houthi attacks that took place a week apart, in the first assaults on the Gulf State.

UAE tackles banned weapons financing, awaits dirty money list decision

DUBAI, Jan 26 (Reuters) - The United Arab Emirates said it was assessing the risk that funds for banned weapons could pass through its trading hub and would take measures to prevent this, as it awaits a March decision on whether it will be added to a dirty money watchlist.

The UAE and the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), a global financial crime monitoring group, will hold meetings in Paris at the end of February to assess a progress report submitted by the UAE late last year. The watchdog in March will update its list of high-risk and other monitored jurisdictions.

Ministry Of Defence Announces Interception Of Two Ballistic Missiles Fired By Houthi Militia Targeting UAE

ABU DHABI, Jan 24 (NNN-WAM) – The Ministry of Defence announced today that, its air defence forces, had intercepted and destroyed two ballistic missiles, targeting the UAE, which were fired by the Houthi militia.

The ministry confirmed that, there were no casualties resulting from the attack, as the fragments of the ballistic missiles fell in different areas around the UAE’s capital, Abu Dhabi.

In its statement, the ministry affirmed its “full readiness to deal with any threats,” adding that, it will “take all necessary measures to protect the UAE from any attacks.”
