Tunisia president sacks two ministers

03 Aug 2021; MEMO: Tunisian President Kais Saied yesterday dismissed two ministers from the former cabinet.

According to a presidential statement, the former Minister of Economy, Finance and Investment Support, Ali Kooli, was removed from his post and Sihem Boughdiri Nemissa was appointed as his successor.

Saied also sacked Mohamed Fadhel Kraiem, the communications technology minister and the acting agriculture minister, and appointed Nizar Ben Neji as his successor.

Ghannouchi has never, will never leave Tunisia

02 Aug 2021; MEMO: Tunisia Parliamentary Speaker and head of the Ennahda party Rached Ghannouchi "has never and will never think of leaving the country," the Deputy Chairman of the Tunisian Assembly of People's Representatives, Maher Medhioub, said yesterday, denying news that he may have sought treatment abroad.

Tunisia: Ennahda party calls for dialogue to resolve Tunisia crisis

31 July 2021; MEMO: Tunisia's moderate Islamist Ennahda party on Saturday called on President Kais Saied to engage in dialogue to avoid deepening the country's political crisis, Anadolu Agency reported.

"The possible and effective way-out of these problems will not be through monopolizing power, which can only increase the spread of corruption, nepotism, and injustice," Ennahda said in a statement.

Tunisia places former judge under house arrest

01 Aug 2021; MEMO: Tunisian authorities have placed a former judge under house arrest, according to local media on Saturday, Anadolu Agency reported.

A security force enforced a decision by Interior Minister Reda Gharslawi to place Bechir Akremi under house arrest, the private radio station, Mosaique FM, reported.

Tunisia's Ghannouchi discharged from hospital after medical checks

01 Aug 2021; MEMO: Tunisia's Parliament Speaker Rached Ghannouchi was discharged from hospital after conducting medical checks, the moderate Islamist Ennahda party said, reports Anadolu Agency.

The party said in a statement that Ghannouchi was admitted to the hospital on Saturday after feeling ill.

Ghannouchi "left the hospital after conducting medical checks and receiving treatment," the statement said.

Tunisian police detain lawmaker, Islamist party officials

TUNIS, Tunisia (AP) — Tunisian authorities jailed an opposition lawmaker Friday and briefly detained four members of the powerful Islamist movement Ennahdha in the wake of the president’s decision to seize exceptional powers, according to Tunisian media reports.

The Ennahdha members were brought before investigating magistrates and accused of trying to incite violence outside the parliament building after President Kais Saied’s announcement Sunday, according to party official Riadh Chaidi.
