UK approves Pfizer/BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine for emergency use next week

London; 02 Dec 2020 (UMMN): UK has become the first western country to license Pfizer/BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine for emergency use from next week for those most at risk, opening the way for mass immunisation.

According to The Guardian, the UK has bought 40m doses of the vaccine, which has been shown to have 95% efficacy in its final trials.

USA: Asteroid samples escaping from jammed NASA spacecraft

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — A NASA spacecraft is stuffed with so much asteroid rubble from this week’s grab that it’s jammed open and precious particles are drifting away in space, scientists said Friday.

Scientists announced the news three days after the spacecraft named Osiris-Rex briefly touched asteroid Bennu, NASA’s first attempt at such a mission.

India: Nirbhay missile develops technical snag during trial

New Delhi, Oct 12 (PTI) The Nirbhay subsonic cruise missile, having a range of around 1,000 km, developed a technical snag during a test firing on Monday at a facility in Odisha, forcing its developer DRDO to abort the trial, official sources said.

The missile was test-fired by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) from an integrated test range in Balasore in Odisha at around 10:30 AM.

Coronavirus can survive on skin for 9 hours: Study

New Delhi, Oct 9 (PTI) The SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes COVID-19, may linger on human skin for nine hours, much longer than the flu viruses can, according to a study.

The influenza A virus (IAV), in contrast, remained viable on human skin for nearly two hours, said the researchers including those from Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine in Japan.

India: 'Shaurya' missile successfully test fired

Balasore (Odisha), Oct 3 (PTI) India on Saturday successfully test fired its indigenously developed nuclear capable hypersonic missile 'Shaurya' with a strike range of around 1,000 km from a test range in Odisha, defence sources said.

'Shaurya', which is the land variant of Indias K-15 missile, has a strike range of 700 km to 1000 km and is capable of carrying payloads of 200 kg tO 1000 kg, the sources said.

India test fires BrahMos supersonic cruise missile

New Delhi, Sep 30 (PTI) India on Wednesday successfully test fired the supersonic cruise missile BrahMos having a range of around 400 km, officials said.

The BrahMos cruise missile travels at a speed of Mach 2.8, nearly three times that of sound.

The test firing of the missile was carried out by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) off the coast of Balasore in Odisha, the officials said.

Iran says National Information Network not aiming to replace worldwide web

Tehran, Sept 26, IRNA – Iran’s National Information Network does not aim to replace the worldwide web, Head of Civil Defense Organization Brigadier-General Gholamreza Jalali said on Saturday.

“We will need a common understanding of the issue and its importance in order to be able to fully establish a National Information Network,” Jalali said.
