Indian Polls: NYAY is diesel for Indian economy's engine

Dholpur (Raj), Apr 29 (PTI) Congress president Rahul Gandhi Monday described the party's proposed minimum income guarantee scheme as "diesel for the engine" of the Indian economy.

Gandhi promised to give government jobs to 22 lakh youths in one year, make 10 lakh recruitment in panchayats and said no farmer will be jailed for not repaying loan, if the Congress is voted to power.

Jodhpur, Apr 28 (PTI) Not long ago, Pakistani Hindus living in Jodhpur held little political sway. However, as time passed and they grew in numbers, the community has emerged as an important vote bank, with manifestos of political parties promising to fulfill their basic needs like water and electricity.

According to Hindu Singh Soda, who runs a charity here for Pakistani Hindus, around 20,000 members of the community in Jodhpur are eligible to vote.

Jaipur, Apr 25 (PTI) Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot Thursday targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, using the BJP's 2014 poll slogan and saying 'acche din' (good days) will come when Modi leaves.

Modi ji jayenge, aache din aayenge,' (Good days will come, once Modi leaves)," Gehlot mocked the prime minister.

India: 55-yr-old man 'rapes' class 6 girl

Kota (Raj), Apr 24 (PTI) A 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her father's friend in Rajasthan's Bundi district Wednesday, police said.

The girl, a student of class 6, was allegedly raped five days ago at an isolated place in Old Grain Mandi premises under Bundi city police station limits but approached police with her uncle only Wednesday, they said.

India: Man gets 20-yr jail term for raping 3-yr-old

Kota, Apr 24 (PTI) A special court Wednesday sentenced a man to 20 years in jail here for raping a three-year-old girl after abducting her from home last September.

The special court, set up under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences [POCSO] Act also imposed a fine of Rs 2.10 lakh on convict Ajay Rai alias Taxi, 25.

India: I want to do justice in next five years: Rahul Gandhi

Dungarpur (Raj), Apr 23 (PTI) Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said the BJP government had done injustice in the last five years but he wants to reverse the trend by doing justice in the next five.

Addressing an election rally in Beneshwar Dham in the tribal dominated constituency of Dungarpur, Gandhi also promised a surgical strike on poverty and give government jobs to 22 lakh people in the next one year if his party is voted to power in the Lok Sabha elections.

Portuguese man killed in accident in Rajasthan, India

Jaipur, Apr 22 (PTI) A Portuguese national died after his motorcycle was hit by a speeding bus in Rajasthan's Rajsamand district, police said Monday.

The incident took place on Sunday night near Barar village, they said.

Hitor Sada (30) was riding a bike when the bus driver lost control of the vehicle while taking a turn and hit the foreigner's vehicle, Labu Ram, in-charge, Bheem police station said.

Australian held in India for carrying satellite phone

Jaipur, Apr 22 (PTI) An Australian citizen was arrested after he was allegedly found carrying a satellite phone at Jaipur airport on Monday, police said.

The satellite phone was recovered from the possession of Corbett during checking before boarding a Delhi-bound flight, DCP (East) Rahul Jain said.

He could not furnish documents and permission for carrying the satellite phone.

He is being interrogated, the DCP added.

India: Gehlot asks youths to ditch smartphones & read history

Jaipur, Apr 20 (PTI) Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot Saturday urged the new generation to brush up their knowledge of history and not fall prey to the BJP's "misleading" campaign on social media.

"Teams of social media are at work. They (BJP) are spending crores of rupees to attack... conspiracy is going on to mislead people of the country," he told reporters in Jaisalmer district.

India: UPA govt will probe demonetisation

Bikaner, Apr 8 (PTI) Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Monday said the United Progressive Alliance government at Centre, if voted to power, will launch a probe into the Narendra Modi government's demonetisation in 2016.

"The UPA government at the Centre will get demonetisation probed when it will be in power. The secret will be out about the profit and loss to the country due to demonetisation. Corruption will also be exposed," Gehlot told reporters here.
