India: Man gets five years' imprisonment for molesting 3 yr old girl

Sikar, Mar 27 (PTI) A court in Rajasthan's Sikar Wednesday sentenced a man to five years of imprisonment for molesting a three-and-a-half-years-old girl in the district.

The court also slapped a penalty of Rs 10,000 on Karanpal Singh Rajput while pronouncing him guilty in the three-year-old case.

Cong will launch 'surgical strike' on poverty: Rahul

Jaipur, Mar 26 (PTI) Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday promised a "surgical strike" on poverty and said his party had been working on how to eradicate it for the last six months.

Addressing a rally in Suratgarh a day after declaring his party would roll out a minimum income guarantee scheme for the poorest 20 per cent households if voted to power, Gandhi said only the rich could dream under the Narendra Modi rule.

Jaipur, Mar 16 (PTI) Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said on Saturday Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made false promises and had "zero achievements" to highlight.

Addressing public meetings in Jamwa Ramgarh and Bhandrej, Gehlot alleged that Modi had failed to fulfil the promises he had made in the 2014 Lok Sabha election and took wrong decisions.

The senior Congress leader claimed that demonetisation and the hastily-implemented goods and services tax were among the decisions that did not benefit the people.

India: Man gets life in jail for sodomy in Rajasthan

Kota (Rajasthan) Mar 15 (PTI) A 30-year-old man was sentenced to life imprisonment by a POCSO court for sodomising a 12-year-old boy in a village in Kota district, an official said Friday.

Munesh, a resident of Takarwara village, was given life in jail by judge Girish Agarwal on Thursday, Special Public Prosecutor Kamalkant Sharma said.

A fine of Rs 70,000 was also imposed on the convict.

Munesh on June 9, 2017 had lured the boy to an isolated place near Jhadol village and sexually harassed him.

India: Anti-tank guided missile test-fired successfully

New Delhi, Mar 14 (PTI) The Defence Research and Development Organisation successfully test fired indigenously developed, low weight, Man Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile for the second time on Thursday in the ranges of Rajasthan desert, a statement said.

The missile is incorporated with advanced features including state-of-the-art Imaging Infrared Radar (IIR) Seeker with integrated avionics, it said.

The first test was conducted on Wednesday.

India: Woman raped by neighbour in Rajasthan

Kota (R'than), Mar 11 (PTI) A 26-year-old woman was allegedly raped in an agricultural field in Rajasthan's Jhalawar district, police said on Monday.

According to a police complaint filed by the woman, her neighbour, Dhulichand Tanwar (30), allegedly raped her on Sunday afternoon, Station House Officer Dangipura police station Raju Udaiwal said.

The victim approached police late Sunday evening. The accused has been booked for rape, the SHO said.

The accused has not been arrested yet.

India: Married woman abducted, raped for over 20 days

Kota, Mar 11 (PTI) A 30-year-old married woman from Rajasthan's Jhalawar district was abducted and raped for over 20 days by a family acquaintance from a neighbouring village, police said Monday.

The accused, Shanti Lal Mehar from Bandi village, held the victim captive at different spots in Jhalawar as well as neighbouring Gujarat, police said.

The woman was freed by the accused on Sunday and after narrating the ordeal to her husband, she lodged an FIR at the Khanpur Police Station, sub inspector Surendra Singh said.

India: Intruding UAV shot down in Rajasthan: Sources

Jaipur, Mar 9 (PTI) A unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) which intruded into Rajasthan's Ganganagar was shot down by the Army on Saturday, defence sources said.

"One UAV intrusion in Ganganagar sector around 7.30 pm. The drone was engaged and brought down," a defence source (no detail of 'source') said. No further details were shared.

India: MiG-21 crashes in Rajasthan's Bikaner, pilot ejects safely

Jaipur, Mar 8 : A MiG-21 fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed in Rajasthan's Bikaner district on Friday with the pilot ejecting safely, a defence ministry spokesperson said.

The aircraft was on a routine mission and crashed after getting airborne from the Nal airbase near Bikaner. The pilot of the aircraft ejected safely, the spokesperson said.

He said that a court of inquiry would investigate the cause of the accident.
