India: Cong will win over 132 seats in MP: Digvijay

Bhopal, Nov 29 (PTI) Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh Thursday claimed his party will win more than 132 seats out of the total 230 in the state Assembly.

A record 75 per cent voters exercised their franchise in the state elections held Wednesday, an increase of around two per cent against the last polls held in 2013.

"We are going to win more than 132 seats and wrest power from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state after 15 years," Singh told reporters here.

India: Campaigning ends in MP, polls on Nov 28

Bhopal, Nov 26 (PTI) Curtains came down Monday evening on the acrimonious campaigning for the high-stakes November 28 assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh, where star campaigners of the BJP, the Congress and other parties addressed a series of rallies and held roadshows to seek support for candidates.

Canvassing came to a formal end at 5 pm and voting to elect a new 230-member assembly will take place on Wednesday. As many as 2,907 candidates are in the fray.

India: No substance in what Modi speaks, says Rahul Gandhi

Vidisha, Nov 23 (PTI) Congress president Rahul Gandhi Friday said Indians have realised that there is no substance in what Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaks, adding the latter is mum on the issues he spoke about before the 2014 elections.

Addressing a campaign rally here for the November 28 Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls, Gandhi said Modi's speeches used to be about corruption, farmers and unemployment.

"Today, he doesn't say anything on these issues.

Modi govt bent on ruining country: Punjab minister

Bhopal, Nov 13 (PTI) Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal Tuesday alleged that the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narenda Modi was bent on ruining the country.

He also blamed the Modi government for "wreaking havoc" for the economy through decisions like demonetisation and GST.

"After the independence in 1947, we built a nest, which is India. We got independence after toils and sacrifices...It did not come easily. But sadly, instead of protecting it, the prime minister is bent on ruining the country," he told reporters here.

India: Congress govt will disband Vyapam

Bhopal, Nov 10 (PTI) The Congress on Saturday promised to disband the Vyapam and refund the examination fees of the lakhs of youth who had appeared for the recruitment tests conducted by the scam-hit board in the last 10 years.

The Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board, popularly known by the acronym Vyapam (Vyavasayik Pareeksha Mandal), is at the centre of a massive recruitment scandal, involving bribery and fudging of marks among others, that is being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

India: MP CM's son files defamation case against Rahul

Bhopal, Oct 30 (PTI) Kartikey Chouhan, son of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, on Tuesday filed a criminal defamation case against Congress President Rahul Gandhi for alleging that his name figured in the Panama Papers.

Gandhi, meanwhile, said he mentioned the name of Chouhan's son in the context of Panama Papers due to "confusion".

Dhar (MP), Oct 30 (PTI) Congress president Rahul Gandhi alleged on Tuesday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has "failed" to keep his electoral promise of ushering in "acche din" (good days) and people are feeling "betrayed" now.

Canvassing for the Congress in Dhar in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh, Gandhi also accused the prime minister of helping only select industrialists while neglecting farmers, tribals and youth of the country.

Minor's rape-murder: Accused arrested from Ratlam in MP

Indore, Oct 28 (PTI) A 25-year-old man accused of raping and killing a minor in Dwarkapuri area of Madhya Pradesh's Indore district on October 25 was Sunday arrested, a senior police official said.

Honey Athwal, who has previously been arrested as a minor for rape and murder, had abducted the 4-year-old girl when she was returning after attending tuition classes Thursday evening.

The victim was allegedly raped and strangulated and her body was discovered in a drain under Krishnapura bridge here Saturday, police had said.

India: Over 3.10 lakh farmers killed themselves due to wrong

Bhopal (MP), Oct 28 (PTI) Hindutva leader Pravin Togadia Sunday claimed over 3.10 lakh farmers have committed suicide in the country, which he said is the fallout of the "wrong policies" of the last 25 years.

Speaking to reporters here in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh, where assembly elections are scheduled to be held on November 28, Togadia appealed to ruling parties to start waiving loans of farmers in their respective states.

He also asked farmers to not elect leaders who neglect their demands.
