Egypt, Kuwait sign $1bn deals to develop Sinai

22 Oct 2019; MEMO: Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and his Kuwaiti counterpart Sheikh Jaber Al Mubarak Al Hamad Al Sabah yesterday attended an event held for the signing of deals worth $1.09 billion to fund the second phase of the Sinai development programme, state-run newspaper Al-Ahram reported.

Included in the deals is a $86 million project to carry out an infrastructure project at Al-Nafaq Road in the coastal resort town of Sharm El-Sheikh.

Kuwait buys $281m worth of armoured vehicles from US

14 Oct 2019; MEMO: The Pentagon has agreed to sell Kuwait 19 armoured recovery vehicles and associated heavy equipment to the tune of $281 million, the New Khaleej reported yesterday.

The M88 Recovery Vehicle is one of the largest armoured recovery vehicles and it is referred to as HERCULES – Heavy Equipment Recovery Combat Utility Lifting Extraction System. It would be used to ensure the sustainability of Kuwait’s new tank defence system.

Kuwait Says Turkish Military Operation In Syria Threatens Regional Stability

KUWAIT, Oct 10 (NNN-KUNA) – The military operation, launched by the Turkish army in Syria, poses a direct threat to the security and stability in the region, Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry said, on Wednesday.

“The military escalation risks undermining the chances of political solution, sought by international community, after the tangible progress made in the quest for peace in Syria,” an official source at the ministry said.

Kuwait, U.S. sign deal on aviation security cooperation

KUWAIT, Oct 9 (NNN-KUNA) – Kuwait and the United States, on Tuesday, signed a deal to bolster cooperation on aviation security.

The deal was inked by Kuwait Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), and the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

After signing the agreement, DGCA’s President, Sheikh Salman Al-Humoud Al-Sabah, said that, the deal encourages further cooperation between the two sides at administrative, technical, or security levels.

Kuwait attaches importance to human rights under constitution: deputy FM

KUWAIT CITY, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait attaches great importance to protecting human rights in adherence to its constitution, Kuwait's Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Al-Jarallah said Tuesday.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of a seminar themed "Kuwait's Efforts in Relieving the Elderly," Al-Jarallah said that Kuwait's keenness on human rights comes from its belief.

He pointed out that Kuwait contributed to supporting the elderly through various governmental bodies and spreading the awareness on the problems that faces the elderly.

Kuwait accuses Iraq of flaring tensions on border issue

25 Sep 2019; MEMO: Kuwait’s Deputy Foreign Minister has accused Iraq of instigating a debate on the current border crisis between the two countries, the New Khaleej reported on Tuesday. Khalid Al-Jarallah said that Kuwait is seeking to demarcate the maritime border with Iraq because his government believes that the Iraqi description of the Khor Abdullah waterway as a full border agreement is not accurate.

Kuwait Raises Security Alert Level At Oil And Commercial Ports

KUWAIT, Sept 21 (NNN-KUNA) – Kuwait will raise its port security level of facilities, the Kuwait Ports Authority (KPA), said on Friday.

The decision was issued by Khaled Al-Roudhan, Kuwait’s minister of commerce and industry, and state minister for services, KPA said in a statement.

According to the ministerial decree, Kuwait will raise security level of all port facilities in the country.

The decision aims to preserve the security of the country and its territory, as well as, ports, under conditions experienced by the region, the statement said.

Kuwait-U.S. Summit To Discuss Gulf Tensions, Bilateral Ties

KUWAIT, Sept 4 (NNN-KUNA) – Kuwaiti and U.S. leaders will discuss the Gulf tensions and bilateral ties, during a summit next week, U.S. Ambassador to Kuwait, Lawrence Silverman said.

Kuwaiti Emir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who arrived in the U.S. on Monday, is scheduled to hold a summit on Sept 12, with U.S. President, Donald Trump, at the White House.
