Kuwait's coronavirus cases rise to 45

28 Feb 2020; MEMO: Kuwait confirmed two more cases of the new coronavirus today, taking the toll to 45, according to its Health Ministry.

“The two cases were in contact with the infected people who came from Iran before the outbreak was announced,” the ministry said.

The ministry asserted stable health conditions of all cases and “efficiency of medical staff dealing with them at three medical quarantine centers.”

Coronavirus: Kuwait has suspended schools for two weeks

27 Feb 2020; MEMO: Authorities in Kuwait announced on Wednesday 26 February that it would close schools for two weeks at the beginning of March, out of fear of the Coronavirus, after registering infected cases in the country.

Tariq Al-Muzram, head of the Government Communication Centre and government spokesman, said in a press statement that after the extraordinary cabinet meeting ended, it has been decided to suspend classes in all government and private schools and colleges for two weeks, starting from 1 March.

Kuwait Celebrated 59th National Day Under Amir’s Leadership

KUWAIT, Feb 26 (NNN-KUNA) – Kuwait celebrated on Tuesday (yesterday), the 59th National Day, which coincided with the 14th anniversary of the Amir’s, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, assumption as ruler of Kuwait, amid celebrations of patriotism and loyalty.

Kuwait’s celebrations first started back in 1962, when the country began establishing its political system, with a constitution that would organise governmental work, based on democratic principles, compatible with the reality of Kuwait and its goals.

Kuwait Launches Robotics, AI Festival

KUWAIT, Feb 10 (NNN-XINHUA) – Kuwait launched, on Sunday, the Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Festival, to promote scientific awareness in Kuwait.

At the opening ceremony, Salam Al-Ablani, scientific culture director, of the Kuwaiti Foundation for Advancement of Science (KFAS), said that, the festival aims at boosting the scientific culture in smart industries, and aiding the youth develop their skills, in line with Kuwait’s future aspirations.

16 US soldiers flown to Kuwait hospital after Iran strike

20 Jan 2019; MEMO: A leading Arabic-language newspaper in Kuwait reported yesterday that 16 US servicemen were transferred to a US military hospital in Kuwait following Iran’s retaliatory missile attack against the Ain Al-Assad Air Base in Iraq earlier this month. Some of the casualties were suffering from severe burns and others had shrapnel wounds. The Iranian air strikes targeted two sites in response to the US assassination of top Iranian General Qassem Soleimani in Baghdad on 3 January.

Huawei launches new-generation 5G smartphone in Kuwait

KUWAIT CITY, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese technology and smartphone giant Huawei on Thursday launched the HUAWEI Mate 30 Pro 5G, a new-generation 5G smartphone, in Kuwait.

A large crowd of consumers and fans attended the launching ceremony held at a Huawei store inside the Avenues Mall in the Farwaniya Governorate, the largest shopping mall in Kuwait.

At the ceremony, Muhammad Awais Sheikh, marketing director of Huawei Consumer Business Group in Kuwait, said that HUAWEI Mate30 Pro 5G is the first dual mode phone with a Kirin 990 5G chipset.

Kuwait sheep sold for a record $131,600

24 Dec 2019; MEMO: A sheep in Kuwait has been sold at auction for a record 40,000 dinars ($131,600).

This is not the first time that the sheep known as Al-Naama for her white colour and rare breed has received such a high price. In a previous auction, bidders reportedly offered its owner a whopping 50,000 dinars ($164,746) to sell her, however he declined claiming she is worth more.

Livestock auctions are very common in Kuwait.

OAPEC Meeting In Kuwait Discusses Draft Budget, Petroleum Situation

KUWAIT, Dec 23 (NNN-XINHUA) – The Organisation of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC), held the 103rd meeting in Kuwait, to discuss 2020 draft budget, along with topics related to the current petroleum situation.
