Kuwait: 50% of expat municipal employees to be sacked

21 May 2020; MEMO: The Kuwaiti Minister of State for Municipal Affairs, Waleed Al-Jassim, on Tuesday ordered 50 per cent of expat municipal employees be sacked after the Eid Al-Fitr holiday, Al-Qabas news site reported.

The site quoted a source as saying that Al-Jassim chaired a virtual meeting with the heads of municipal sectors and informed them of the decision.

Kuwait To Repatriate Citizens From Saudi Arabia Over COVID-19 Spread

KUWAIT, May 12 (NNN-KUNA) – Kuwait will repatriate its citizens from Saudi Arabia, due to the spread of COVID-19, Kuwaiti Foreign Minister, Sheikh Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah said, on Monday.

The repatriation plan will be carried out in cooperation with the authority of Saudi Arabia, via the land checkpoint at Al-Nuwaiseeb, from today, May 12 to 20, he said in a statement.

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Kuwait in Riyadh, have begun the process of registering citizens in Saudi Arabia for the operation, he noted.

Indian doctor in Kuwait dies from COVID-19

Dubai, May 11 (PTI) An Indian dentist in Kuwait has died from the novel coronavirus, becoming the country's second medical professional to succumb to COVID-19, according to a media report.

Dr Vasudeva Rao, 54, died on Saturday in Jaber hospital where he was undergoing treatment for coronavirus infection, news website timeskuwait.com reported.

Kuwait urges Egypt, India to repatriate illegal residents to limit coronavirus outbreak

14 April 2020; MEMO: The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday called on the embassies of Egypt and India to repatriate their citizens who were in the country illegally to limit the spread of the coronavirus.

The ministry is reported to have asked the Egyptian embassy in Kuwait to urge members of the Egyptian community to abide by quarantine instructions, stressing that they serve the interests of everyone.

Kuwait approves measures to support businesses during coronavirus lockdown

25 Mar 2020; MEMO: Kuwait has taken a number of measures to support small and medium-sized companies and individuals to face the economic consequences of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Kuwait Banking Association said in a statement that it has decided to postpone the repayment of loans and credit card facilitations for small and medium-sized companies for six months, as well as interest.

Kuwait sees decline in COVID-19 infections

24 Mar 2020; MEMO: Kuwait has recorded a noticeable decrease in the number of coronavirus infections in the past 24 hours.

The spokesperson for the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health, Abdullah al-Sanad, said yesterday that only one new case was recorded in the past 24 hours, bringing the number of those who have COVID-19 in the country to 189.

The new case is a female Kuwaiti citizen who frequently visited the United Arab Emirates.

Kuwait To Suspend Commercial Flights

KUWAIT, Mar 12 (NNN-KUNA) – Kuwait decided, on Wednesday, to suspend commercial flights to and from the country, starting from tomorrow, Mar 13.

The decision was made at a meeting of the Kuwaiti government, on Wednesday (yesterday).

At a news conference, following the meeting, Tareq Al-Mezrem, the government spokesman, said that, the decision is part of efforts to confront spread of COVID-19.

Kuwait lifts restrictions on Indian passengers

Mumbai, Mar 6 (PTI) The Civil Aviation Authority of Kuwait has lifted an order requiring medical certificates for Indians travelling to the country, according to a release.

The authority had made the requirement for nationals from 10 countries, including India, in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.

In a release on Friday, Jazeera Airways said Kuwait has rolled back travel restrictions for Indian passengers.
