'Vikram' lander tilts after hard hit, but unbroken: ISRO

Chennai, Sep 9 (PTI) The 'Vikram' lander lies on the lunar surface as a single piece, unbroken and it is in a tilted position following a hard landing while efforts to re-establish link with the probe were on, an ISRO official said on Monday.

Vikram, which encases rover 'Pragyan' went out of contact during its final descent, when it was just 2.1 km above the lunar surface, in the early hours of September 7.

Bengaluru, Sep 8 (PTI) The Chandrayaan-2s Vikram module has been located on the Lunar surface and it must have been a hard-landing, ISRO chairman K Sivan said on Sunday, in an admission that the planned soft-landing wasnt successful.

Bengaluru, Sept 7 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed solidarity with ISRO scientists after Chandrayaan-2's Vikram module lost communication with the ground station during the powered descent leading to huge disappointment.

"Communication has been lost. I could see the anxiety on your faces. There is no need to get disappointed because it is not a small achievement.The country is proud of you," he said.

Bengaluru, Sep 7 (PTI) ISRO may have lost Chandrayaan-2's Vikram lander and rover Pragyan housed inside it, a senior official of the space agency associated with the unmanned moon mission said here Saturday.

Earlier in the day, contact from the lander to the ground stations was lost during its powered descent to the Lunar surface minutes before the planned touch-down.

"Vikram lander descent was as planned and normal performance was observed up to an altitude of 2.1 km.

Bengaluru, Sep 6 (PTI) Hours before Chandrayaan-2's 'Vikram' module's proposed soft landing on the Lunar surface, ISRO Chairman K Sivan said on Friday things are progressing as per plan for the much-awaited event.

"We are eagerly waiting for the event. Everything is going according to the plan," Sivan told PTI on Friday.

India: HAL's Light Utility Helicopter clears tests in Himalayas

Bengaluru, Sept 5 (PTI) Hindustan Aeronautics Limited said on Thursday the Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) designed and developed by it successfully demonstrated hot weather and high altitude capabilities in the Himalayas.

With the completion of hot and high altitude testing, the LUH has complied with all the requirements of the users and it was close to operational clearance certification, HAL Chairman and Managing Director R Madhavan said.

India: Bandh against Shivakumar's arrest hits life in Ramanagara

Bengaluru, Sep 5 (PTI) Normal life was hit in parts of neighbouring Ramanagara district on Thursday following a bandh called to protest the arrest of senior Karnataka Congress leader D K Shivakumar by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case.

Sporadic protests were reported in places, including Channapattanna and Ramanagara, since morning, while schools and colleges remained shut in the district, under which Shivakumar's assembly segment Kanakapura is located, police said.

India: Karnataka Congress leader Shivakumar arrested by ED

New Delhi, Sep 3 (PTI) Karnataka Congress leader D K Shivakumar was arrested by the ED on Tuesday in connection with a money laundering case, officials said.

The former cabinet minister and sitting MLA from Kanakapura seat appeared before the agency for the fourth time for questioning on Tuesday.

He was placed under arrest under provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), they said.

BENGALURU, Sept 1 (NNN-BERNAMA) – Malaysia’s halal cosmetics and personal care products are in great demand in India despite the slower sales growth recorded in 2018, said Halal Industry Development Corporation Sdn Bhd (HDC).

Its international footprint manager Mohammad Shukur Sugumaran said Indian importers had expressed strong interest in sourcing such products from Malaysia due to the increasing awareness towards using clean, organic, healthy and safe products, especially among the young generation.

India: Moon lander separation successful, says ISRO

Bengaluru, Sep 2 (PTI) ISRO on Monday successfully carried out the separation of lander 'Vikram' from Chandrayaan-2 orbiter, the space agency said.

During the one hour separation window starting 12.45 pm, 'Vikram' was separated at 1.15 pm, the Indian Space Research Organisation said.

"Yes, the separation was successfully carried out," an ISRO official told PTI.
