India: Airport bomb case: Terror suspect Aditya Rao taken to Udupi

Mangaluru, Jan 25 (PTI) The man suspected to have planted a bomb at the city airport was on Saturday taken to Udupi where he has a bank account and a few other places he had frequented in the past.

Aditya Rao was taken to the Kunjibettu branch of Karnataka Bank in Udupi where he has an account and safe deposit locker, police sources said.

Bengaluru, Jan 23 (PTI) JD(S) patriarch H D Deve Gowda on Thursday called on secular regional parties and Congress to fight against the "divisive policies" of the central government like the Citizenship Amendment Act and National Register of Citizens with a Common Minimum Programme.

The former Prime Minister also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of fulfilling the "long standing anti-Muslim agenda" of Jana Sangh and Hindu Mahasabha, and leading the country to the margins of danger.

India: Protesters release black balloons ahead of Amit Shah's Hubballi visit

Hubballi(Ktk), Jan 18 (PTI) Ahead of BJP National President and Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to the city, a group of protesters raised "Go Back Amit Shah" slogans here and released black balloons in the air on Saturday.

Protesters claiming to be members of Samvidhana Samrakshana Samithi (Constitution Protection Committee) tried to stage a protest by sloganeering against Shah, NRC and CAA at court circle here, despite police denying permission.

They were later detained by the police, official sources said.

India: Another bank sinking - RBI caps withdrawal limit - panicked depositors rush

Bengaluru, Jan 14 (PTI) Panic stricken depositors milled around the Sri Guru Raghavendra Cooperative Bank here on Tuesday to withdraw their money, days after the Reserve Bank of India capped the withdrawal limit to Rs 35,000.

The depositors, mostly senior citizens, were concerned about their money deposited in the bank and worried as to how long it might take for the situation to get resolved.

India: Anti-CAA rally: Security beefed up in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Jan 14 (PTI) Security has been tightened in the city and suburbs ahead of the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protest rally planned by Muslim central committees of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts at Adyar-Kannur near here on Wednesday.

Police have made elaborate security arrangements and a roll call of police officers was held at the police grounds here Tuesday.

The roll call parade consisted of three ADGPs, one DGP, 11 SPs, 18 ASPs, 100 DySPs, 300 police inspectors and 500 police sub-inspectors, police sources said.

India: Khalistan supporter arrested in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Jan 12 (PTI) The Central Crime Branch of Bengaluru has arrested an alleged Khalistan supporter who had fled Punjab and was hiding in the city, police said on Sunday.

A hunt was launched for Jarnail Singh Sidhu, who was wanted by the Punjab police, after the internal security division lodged a case against him in February, 2019, the police said.

He was staying as a paying guest here for the last four months and was working at the Bagmane Tech Park, they added.

India: Siddaramaiah alleges govt sponsored JNU violence

Bengaluru, Jan 8 (PTI) Former chief minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday alleged the recent attack on students at the Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi was government sponsored and sought to know what action has been taken against the culprits.

He also described as 'shameful' the police registering FIRs against those injured in the Sunday violence.

The attack on students at JNU was government sponsored, it was not done by some one else, he told reporters here.

India: Congress holds protests against CAA, NRC in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Jan 3 (PTI) Protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) continued here on Friday with hundreds joining the agitation called by Congress legislator and former Minister B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan.

Though the protest date coincided with Prime Minister Narendra Modis presence in the city to inaugurate the 107th session of the Indian Science Congress, it was held only at around 2 pm, hours after Modi departed for New Delhi.

India: Farmers detained in K'taka ahead of PM's visit

Bengaluru, Jan 2 (PTI) A large number of farmers who wanted to stage a demonstration against Prime Minister Narendra Modi protesting the non-implementation of the 'Swaminathan Report' were detained at Bengaluru, Tumakuru and Shivamogga, police said on Thursday.

According to police, the detentions have taken place in certain parts of Tumakuru, near Bengaluru as well as in Shivamogga.

Karna minister warns of confiscation of properties of protesters damanging public assets like in UP

Bengaluru, Dec 26 (PTI) Sending out a stern warning, Karnataka Revenue Minister R Ashoka on Thursday said the state government would emulate Uttar Pradesh and confiscate properties of those who caused damage to public properties during protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

Everyone has to obey the law of the land and not give an opportunity for such an action by the government, he told reporters here.
