India: A few Madhya Pradesh MLAs land in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Mar 4 (PTI) A few legislators from Congress-ruled Madhya Pradesh are reportedly in the city, amid allegations of poaching attempts to destabilise Chief Minister Kamal Nath-led government.

According to sources, around three to four legislators are at a private place in the city's Whitefield area.

India: Probe into police firing on anti-CAA protesters in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Mar 5 (PTI) As many as 29 police officers and personnel were examined by Udupi Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha, head of the magisterial enquiry into the police firing in the city in December 2019 which killed two anti- Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protesters.

A total of 176 police personnel have been directed to present their evidence before the magistrate for the enquiry.

India: ISRO postpones launch of top notch imagery satellite

Bengaluru, Mar 4 (PTI) Indian Space Research Organisation on Wednesday postponed the launch of its latest earth observation satellite 'GISAT-1' scheduled for tomorrow due to technical reasons.

"The launch of GISAT-1 onboard GSLV-F10, planned for March 05, 2020, is postponed due to technical reasons. Revised launch date will be informed in due course," ISRO said in a statement. The space agency, headquartered here, however, did not elaborate.

Indian Gangster Ravi Pujari arrested in S.Africa, extradited

Bengaluru, Feb 23 (PTI) Fugitive gangster Ravi Pujari has been arrested in South Africa and being brought to India by a team of officials, including senior IPS officers from Karnataka, a top police official said on Sunday.

Pujari, wanted in many cases including extortion and murder and been on the run for over 15 years, was deported to Senegal, from where he had jumped bail last year, and extradited.

India: Poet, journo held over recital of anti-CAA poem at govt

Bengaluru, Feb 19 (PTI) A poet and a journalist have been arrested in connection with recital of a poem against CAA and NRC at a government sponsored function in Koppal district of Karnataka last month, police said on Wednesday.

The arrests were made based on a complaint from a BJP functionary alleging that Siraj Bisaralli, a poet had recited an anti-CAA poem at 'Anegundi Utsava' in Gangavathi town of Koppal district in January and Rajabaxi, editor of an online news portal uploaded it on social media.

India: Body of rape accused found hanging from tree in UP

Muzaffarnagar, Feb 18 (PTI) The body of a rape accused was found hanging from a tree at a village in Shamli district, police said on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old man was arrested in connection with a rape case on January 17 and was released on bail on February 11, SP Vineet Jaiswal said.

He said the body was sent for postmortem and efforts were underway to ascertain the cause of the death.

India: Serial rapist and killer 'Cyanide' Mohan gets lifer in 19th murder case

Mangaluru, Feb 18 (PTI) Notorious serial killer 'Cyanide' Mohan has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a court here for the murder of a 23-year old woman from Kasaragod district of Kerala in 2006, the 19th of the 20 murder cases slapped against him.

Sixth additional district and sessions court judge Sayeedunnisa on Monday sentenced Mohan to life and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on him.

The sentence shall commence after he serves the sentence of imprisonment in the other cases, the judge said.

India: "Desperate acts of communal polarisation has limited currency": Deve Gowda

Bengaluru,Feb 11 (PTI) Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda on Tuesday congratulated Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over AAP's "splendid third victory" in the assembly polls and said this win assures the rest of India yet again that "desperate acts of communal polarisation has limited currency".

"You richly deserved this win. It is also a remarkably good sign in Indian politics that your focus on development has paid off immensely," Gowda said.

India: Probe into sedition case against school for insulting Modi in drama

Bidar(Karnataka), Feb 4 (PTI) The police has intensified investigation into the 'sedition case' against the management and staff of a school here, where children had allegedly insulted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and others, in the context of CAA, in a drama they staged on January 21.

As part of the probe, the police visited Shaheen school on Tuesday -- this time in plain clothes, after their questioning of children in uniform on January 28 drew criticism from some quarters, a school official said.
