India: Two arrested for raping 16-year-old girl in MP

Satna (MP), Oct 2 (PTI) Two men have been arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl in Madhya Pradesh's Satna district, police said on Friday.

Lalla Kol (22) and Indrabhan Kol (25) were booked for gang-rape under section 376 of IPC and also under the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, said inspector K K Sharma.

The girl, who is 16 years old, had lodged the complaint on Wednesday.

India: TPG to invest Rs 1837.5 crore in Reliance Retail

New Delhi, Oct 3 (PTI) Global alternative asset firm TPG will invest Rs 1,837.5 crore to buy 0.41 per cent stake in Reliance Retail Ventures Limited (RRVL), the retail arm of Reliance Industries, a statement by the Indian firm said on Saturday.

This investment values Reliance Retail at a pre-money equity value of Rs 4.285 lakh crore.

TPG's investment will translate into a 0.41 per cent equity stake in RRVL on a fully diluted basis, it said.

India: 15-yr-old girl kidnapped, raped in UP's Ballia

Ballia (UP), Oct 3 (PTI) A 15-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped and raped in Sikandarpur Police Station area here, police said on Saturday.

The girl was rescued on Friday morning from Rasra bus stand and the accused identified as 23-year-old Asif has been arrested, SHO, Sikandarpur Amarjeet Yadav said.

The girl was allegedly kidnapped on Wednesday by Asif and raped, the SHO said.

On the complaint of the victim's father a case was registered, he added.

India: Bihar BSP president quits party, joins RJD

Patna, Oct 3 (PTI) The BSP of Mayawati which is part of a three-party alliance headed by Upendra Kushwaha of RLSP for Bihar polls, suffered a setback on Saturday when its state unit president Bharat Bind quit and joined RJD.

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav gave membership of the party to the BSP leader.

Yadav released a picture admitting Bind into the party on his twitter and also the party's social media platform.

India: UP cops deployed at DND ahead of Cong's Hathras visit

Noida (UP), Oct 3 (PTI) Heavy police deployment has come up on the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border in Noida on Saturday, ahead of a scheduled visit of a Congress delegation that plans to meet the family of a 19-year-old Dalit woman in Hathras who died after allegedly being gang-raped.

Barricades were installed at the Delhi-Noida Direct (DND) flyway, where scores of policemen, including senior officers, were present in anti-riot gears since noon, even as CrPC section 144 remained imposed in Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddh Nagar.

India: Utensils Trader robbed of Rs 2 lakh in Ghatampur

Kanpur: An utensil trader was robbed of Rs 2 lacs in Ghatampur of the district on Saturday afternoon.

He did not understand when the miscreants threw Mobil oil on his car.

Despite being the main busy crossing of the place, the vicious miscreants fled away.

The trader coming out of the car tried to know of the exact matter.

In between the duration, the miscreants found time to take out the bag containing the money. The trader learnt later that his money was whisked away from the car.

India: 'Shaurya' missile successfully test fired

Balasore (Odisha), Oct 3 (PTI) India on Saturday successfully test fired its indigenously developed nuclear capable hypersonic missile 'Shaurya' with a strike range of around 1,000 km from a test range in Odisha, defence sources said.

'Shaurya', which is the land variant of Indias K-15 missile, has a strike range of 700 km to 1000 km and is capable of carrying payloads of 200 kg tO 1000 kg, the sources said.

India: UP Cong chief put under house arrest for protesting about raped dalit woman

Lucknow, Oct 3 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Kumar Lallu on Saturday said he had been put under house arrest in order to "stop" him from going to Hathras and fight for justice for the Dalit woman who died after she was assaulted and allegedly gang-raped.

Congress spokesperson Anshu Awasthi alleged that the step had been taken to prevent Lallu from joining party leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who are again headed towards Hathras in another effort to meet the family of the victim.

India: PM Modi inaugurates world's longest highway tunnel

Rohtang (HP), Oct 3 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the strategically important all-weather Atal Tunnel, which reduces the distance between Manali and Leh by 46 km and the travel time by four to five hours, at Rohtang in Himachal Pradesh.

Atal Tunnel, built by the Border Roads Organisation, is the longest highway tunnel in the world.

India: KMC decides to remove encroachments on city roads

Kanpur: The KMC looks determined to remove encroachments along the road extending from the Jarib Chowki road to Vijaynagar road in the city area. It has now awakened from its deep slumber.
