India: Bar Association polls remain still uncertain

Kanpur: Such general discussion roams at the Collectorate that the Bar Association elections have once again be postponed because of non-appointment of observers. Candidates are also discouraged by this very outcome.

It was quite pesky that the elections were proposed to be held in March 2020 but it could not be held. During this time, a complaint letter describing irregularities relating to the polls were reported to the UP Bar Council.

India: Govt to borrow Rs 4.34 lakh cr in second half of 2020-21

New Delhi, Sep 30 (PTI) The Finance Ministry on Wednesday said the government will borrow Rs 4.34 lakh crore in the second half of the current fiscal to meet its expenditure requirement amid COVID-19 crisis afflicting the country's economy.

With this, the government will stick to the revised borrowing target for the current fiscal. The Centre had revised the borrowing target to Rs 12 lakh crore in May against Rs 7.8 lakh crore approved in the Budget 2020-21.

India: 8-yr-old raped in UP's Azamgarh

Azamgarh (UP), Sep 30 (PTI) An eight-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 20-year-old man in a village in Jiyanpur area of the Azamgarh district, police said on Wednesday.

The accused took the girl with himself from her home telling her mother that she would have her bath in his house, the police said, quoting from the complaint lodged by the girl's mother.

India: Minor girl gang-raped in MP's Khargone

Khargone (MP), Sep 30 (PTI) A minor girl was allegedly gang-raped by three unidentified men near Marugarh village here, police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday in the Chainpur police station area, they said.

The girl and her brother were sleeping inside a hut in an agriculture field in the village when the three accused arrived on a two-wheeler and dragged her out, Superintendent of Police Shailendra Singh Chauhan said.

They hit the brother with a stick when he opposed them, the SP said.

India: Another Dailit woman gang-raped, dies in UP

Balrampur (UP), Sep 30 (PTI) Amid the widespread outrage over the alleged gang-rape and murder of a Dalit teen from Hathras in Uttar Pradesh, an yet another scheduled caste woman died in Balrampur district of the state while being rushed to a hospital after her rape by two youths.

Balrampur Superintendent of Police Dev Ranjan Verma said the incident happened in the Gaisari area of the district, where a 22-year-old Dalit woman, working in a private firm, failed to return home in time on Tuesday evening, prompting her parents to start looking for her.

India: State-level wrestler shot dead in UP's Baghpat

Baghpat (UP), Oct 1 (PTI) A state-level wrestler was shot dead and his friend seriously injured in Luhari village here, police said on Thursday.

Akash (19) and Bharat (21) were shot at by four people on Wednesday night, Superintendent of Police Abhishek Singh said.

While Akash died, Bharat was rushed to a hospital where is condition is stated to be serious, he said.

The duo had a dispute with Atul, Akshay, Vishal and Sumit, who called them for talks and shot them, Singh said, adding that the four accused are absconding.

India: Debt-ridden farmer commits suicide in MP

Sehore, Sep 30 (PTI) A 55-year-old debt-ridden farmer allegedly committed suicide in Madhya Pradesh's Sehore district, police said.

The farmer's family members said his soyabean crop was damaged due to heavy rains in the district this year.

Nannulal Verma allegedly hanged himself at his residence in Naaplakhedi village in the morning, Additional Superintendent of Police Samir Yadav said.

India: BJP appoints ex-Maha CM Fadnavis as Bihar poll in-charge

New Delhi, Sep 30 (PTI) The BJP on Wednesday appointed former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis as its in-charge for the Bihar assembly elections, the party said in a statement.

The announcement came on a day party president J P Nadda is holding talks with state BJP leaders here to discuss the three-phase polls to the 243-member state assembly, including seat-sharing arrangements with allies like the JD(U) and the LJP.

The LJP has been blowing hot and cold over the issue as it is said to be unhappy over the offer being made to it by the BJP.

India: Babri case verdict expected, not surprised: NCP

Mumbai, Sep 30 (PTI) The NCP on Wednesday said it was not surprised over the special court's verdict acquitting all accused in the Babri masjid demolition case.

The CBI court in Lucknow has acquitted all the 32 accused, including BJP veterans L K Advani and MM Joshi, for want of conclusive proof against them.

"The court has given verdict in the case today. It was expected, and hence, we are not surprised," Maharashtra minister and NCP national spokesperson Nawab Malik said in a video message.
