India: Farmers protest in Haryana against Dushyant Chautala

Jind, May 7 (PTI) Farmers here on Friday protested against Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala and demanded the withdrawal of the Centre's new agricultural laws.

As farmers protesting against the farm laws near two toll plazas on the Hisar-Chandigarh and the Jind-Patiala national highways got information that Chautala would reach here to take stock of COVID-19 situation, they started moving in large numbers.

India: Son of RSS leader, friend killed in Gurgaon car accident

Chandigarh, May 2 (PTI) The younger son of RSS leader Pawan Jindal was among two killed in a car accident in Gurgaon on Sunday, police said.

Gaurav Jindal (35), the son of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leader from Haryana Pawan Jindal, and his friend Sawan (37) were travelling in a BMW when the accident occurred in the early hours, said Praveen, Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police, DLF Phase-2 police station, Gurgaon.

India: Farmers gherao police station in Haryana's Kurukshetra

Kurukshetra, Apr 19 (PTI) Several farmers on Monday gheraoed the Ismailabad police station here and blocked a highway against the arrests made in connection with the alleged manhandling of a BJP leader.

Police have arrested three farmers for allegedly chasing, abusing, and manhandling Haryana Vimukt Ghumantu Jati Board Vice-Chairman Jai Singh Pal.

A video of the incident also surfaced on social media, in which farmers could be purportedly seen chasing and abusing Pal, who was recently appointed the vice-chairman of the board.

India: BJP-JJP govt in Haryana has failed on all fronts

Chandigarh, Apr 15 (PTI) Former Haryana chief minister and senior Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Thursday accused the state's BJP-JJP government of failing on all fronts, from farmer's issues to the COVID-19 pandemic, and said its incompetence has been exposed.

The leader of opposition in the state also alleged delays in the entire process of wheat procurement, from lifting of purchased grains to payment to farmers.

India: UK variant detected in 70 pc samples sent by PGIMER

Chandigarh, Apr 15 (PTI) The UK variant of COVID-19 was found in 70 percent of 60 samples sent to the National Centre for Diseases Control, the PGIMER said on Thursday.

Seventy percent of the samples had UK variant of Covid-19 and 20 percent of the samples had 681 H mutant, said Jagat Ram, the director of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, in a statement here.

The majority of the samples were from Chandigarh, he added.

India: Farmers gherao BJP MP in Haryana, smash car windscreen

Kurukshetra (Haryana), Apr 6 (PTI) Protesting farmers on Tuesday blocked a BJP MP's car, smashing its windscreen as he tried to leave a party worker's home, police said.

Kurukshetra MP Nayab Singh Saini said police had a tough time getting him away from the protesters at Shahbad Markanda, 20 kms from here.

In two separate incidents, groups of farmers raised slogans against Women and Child Development Minister Kamlesh Dhanda in Kaithal district and state BJP chief O P Dhankar shortly before he was to arrive for a party event in Panipat.

India: Farmers hold protest against Khattar in Haryana's Rohtak

Chandigarh, Apr 3 (PTI) Farmers on Saturday held a protest against Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in Rohtak district.

After they came to know about the CM's visit, farmers including women gathered outside a private university where Khattar's chopper was to land.

Khattar was to attend a condolence meet in memory of Rohtak MP Arvind Sharma's father.

Heavy police security arrangements were made outside the university with barricades put up to stop protesters, said officials.

Hisar, Apr 1 (PTI) Farmers on Thursday held a protest against Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala outside the Hisar airport and demanded the withdrawal of the Centre's new agricultural laws.

Dushyant arrived at the airport to attend a meeting and other programmes.

After farmers, who have been protesting in Hisar against the agricultural laws for the past few months, learned about his visit, they gathered outside the airport in large numbers.

India: Man arrested in Haryana for raping Class 10 girl

Ambala, Mar 22 (PTI) The police have arrested a man for allegedly raping a student of Class 10 here, officials said on Monday.

The girl, who studies at a local school, used to visit the man's house for tuition, they said, adding that the accused was arrested on Sunday.

The accused lived near the girl's house, officials said.

When the girl complained to her parents about stomach pain, she was taken to the civil hospital here and during her medical check up, it was revealed that she was one-month pregnant, police said.
