India: Man gets 10-year jail in rape case in Haryana

Gurugram, Jan 20 (PTI) A court here sent a man to 10-year jail and imposed a fine of Rs 55,000 on him in a rape case.

He will have to undergo additional imprisonment of two years if he fails to pay the fine on time.

Jaiveer Singh, a resident of Haliyaki village in Pataudi area, had raped the woman in 2020.

The woman, a native of Uttar Pradesh, had complained to police that Jaiveer first met her in Rewari, where she had gone to meet her friend.

Later, he proposed the woman for marriage.

India: Haryana extends Covid curbs across the state

Chandigarh, Jan 13 (PTI) Amid a spurt in Covid cases, the Haryana government on Thursday extended various restrictions in all over the state.

The restrictions imposed by January 5 order in "Group A" districts, which had witnessed a big spike in cases, shall now be imposed in all districts, the Haryana State Disaster Management Authority (HSDMA) said.

The guidelines released through orders on January 5 and 10 too shall continue to be imposed in the state, it added.

India: Man fakes his abductions, demands ransom from wife

Gurugram, Jan 3 (PTI) A bartender here faked his abduction and demanded a ransom of Rs 2 lakh from his wife to pay off his debt, police said on Monday.

Police said now action will be taken against Anup Yadav for misleading them and giving false information.

Anup Yadav's wife filed an abduction case on Sunday night after she received messages for the ransom on her mobile phone.

India: Body of newborn girl found in canal in Haryana

Rewari (Haryana), Dec 28 (PTI) A newborn girl was allegedly tied to a stone and thrown into a canal in the Kosli area here, police said.

Passersby saw the body afloat in the canal on Tuesday and informed the police, they said.

A police team reached the spot and took the body to its possession, a police official said.

Police said the girl was two days old.

India: Liquor drinking age lowered from 25 to 21 in Haryana

Chandigarh, Dec 22 (PTI) The Haryana government on Wednesday amended its Excise Act paving the way for lowering of the legal age for consumption of liquor, its purchase or sale from the existing 25 years to 21 in the state.

In this regard, the Haryana Excise (Amendment) Bill, 2021 was passed by the State Assembly here.

India: Reconvert and pray in temples: Hindutva outfits to Muslims

Gurugram, Dec 19 (PTI) A right-wing group disrupting Friday namaz being held in the open here on Sunday asked Muslims to "reconvert" and pray in Hindu temples.

Ancestors of a majority of Haryana Muslims belonged to Hindu community, said Mahaveer Bhardwaj, chairman of the Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti, a body of 32 right-wing Hindu outfits.

"We can organise a mass 'ghar wapsi' in Leisure Valley here and they will be taken back in their castes and accepted with open arms," Bharadwaj said.

India: Hindutva goons try to stop namaz in Gurugram

Gurugram, Dec 17 (PTI) A heated exchange of words took place over offering 'namaz' in the open here on Friday with right wing activists asking those who arrived for the prayers to chant 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai'.

Several videos on the clash, which are said to be shot in Udyog Vihar, also show police arriving at the venue and holdings talks with the two groups.

India: Delhi Police allows traffic movement at Singhu border after Farmers' protest ends

New Delhi, Dec 15 (PTI) After over a year, the Delhi Police on Wednesday allowed traffic movement as well as opened two carriageways at Singhu border after it dismantled all the barricades that were erected to prevent the protesting farmers from moving towards the national capital.

It has been decided that Singhu border be opened from Delhi side also. It has been opened for all vehicles, Deputy Commissioner of Police (outer north) Brijesh Yadav said.

India: Dental surgeon recruitment scam in Haryana: HPSC dy secy dismissed

Chandigarh, Dec 7 (PTI) A suspended deputy secretary of the Haryana Public Service Commission, arrested earlier for allegedly taking bribes to manipulate marks of candidates for their recruitment as dental surgeons, was sacked on Tuesday.

HPSC Deputy Secretary Anil Nagar was arrested earlier along with two others by the Haryana Vigilance Bureau sleuths for their alleged roles in manipulating the recruitment of dental surgeons by taking bribes from them for enhancing their marks in the written test for the purpose.

India: Right-wing Hindutva extremists vandalise tomb in Haryana

Faridabad (Haryana), Nov 24 (PTI) A tomb was vandalised by some right-wing activists, accusing its Maulvi of being a quack, giving wrong medicines to women, police said on Wednesday.

The vandalization of the tomb located in the Ballabhgarh panchayat premises on late Tuesday night has led to communal tension, necessitating the deployment of police, the Faridabad police spokesperson said.
