India: Hefty priv school fee forces parents to look for govt schools

Ambala, Jun 16 (PTI) Facing financial problems due job loss and pay cut in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, parents in Haryana's Ambala are turning to government schools to reduce their expenses on their children's education.

Some parents said they have been paying a hefty fee but private schools are not ready to give much concession in the present situation.

India: Liquor theft case: Ex Haryana MLA arrested

Chandigarh, May 14 (PTI) Former Haryana MLA Satvinder Rana has been arrested by the state police for his alleged role in the theft of liquor from a sealed godown in Samalkha in Panipat district, a senior police official said on Thursday.

Rana, who was a two-time legislator from Rajound constituency in Kaithal district, was arrested on Wednesday night from the MLA hostel here.

India: Woman suspected to be suffering from coronavirus flees hospital

Chandigarh, Mar 20 (PTI) In a first such case in Punjab, a 26-year-old woman suspected to be suffering from coronavirus was booked for fleeing from the hospital here, police said on Friday.

The woman, a resident of Mohali, had returned from the US and was taken to a government hospital in Chandigarh for a check up.

India: Haryana govt declares coronavirus epidemic

Chandigarh, Mar 12 (PTI) The Haryana government on Thursday declared the contagious coronavirus infection an epidemic.

According to the state Health Department, 44 samples of suspected cases were sent for tests till Wednesday. Out of these, 38 were found negative for coronavirus while reports of six people -- four from Gurgaon and two from Panchkula -- were awaited.

India: BJP trying to topple MP gov, held 8 non-BJP MLAs in Gurugram hotel

Delhi; 04 March 2020 (UMM): MP Chief Minister Kamal Nath as the Madhya Pradesh Congress has alleged that BJP is trying to topple its government, and eight MLAs were held by the BJP in a luxury hotel in Gurugram, Haryana, and Congress ministers were not being allowed to meet them.

Four of the MLAs are from the Congress, two from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), one from Samajwadi Party (SP) and one Independent, and BJP was holding them in the hotel with the help of Haryana Police said Nath.

India: Uber driver held for sexually harassing woman in Gurgaon

Gurgaon, Feb 19 (PTI) An Uber driver was held for allegedly sexually harassing a woman passenger, police said here on Wednesday.

The accused had allegedly masturbated in his car in the presence of the woman, who was a Delhi University student, they said.

The woman had taken the cab from a Sector 51 locality here to the Huda City Centre Metro station on Tuesday.

India: Modi govt attacking rights of SC/ST: Selja

Chandigarh, Feb 16 (PTI) In the backdrop of an apex court ruling that states are not bound to provide reservation in appointments or promotions, the Haryana Congress on Sunday held a protest, accusing the Narendra Modi government of attacking rights of the STs/SCs and OBCs.

The Supreme Court had given the judgment last week, upholding the contention of the Uttarakand BJP government.

India: 4-year-old girl raped in Haryana's Panchkula

Chandigarh, Feb 15 (PTI) A four-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a school bus driver in Haryana's Panchkula district, police said on Saturday.

The incident occurred in the bus in Pinjore on Friday, an officer said.

The girl has been admitted to a hospital. Efforts are on to nab the accused, the police said.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, police said.

India: Haryana Roadways to add 1,500 buses to its fleet

Chandigarh, Feb 8 (PTI) Transport Minister Mool Chand Sharma on Saturday said 1,500 new buses will soon be added to the fleet of Haryana Roadways.

He was presiding over the monthly meeting of the District Public Relations and Grievances Committees in Sonipat, according to an official statement issued here.
