Australia warns citizens ahead of expected Jerusalem move

14 Nov 2018: AFP: Australia on Friday warned citizens to take care while travelling in neighbouring Muslim-majority Indonesia, ahead of an expected but contentious move to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison is expected to announce -- as soon as Saturday -- that his government will follow US President Donald Trump's lead and recognise the contested city as Israel's capital.

Senate rebukes Trump, Saudi Arabia over Khashoggi, Yemen war

WASHINGTON (AP) — In back-to-back votes against Saudi Arabia, the Senate delivered an unusual rebuke of President Donald Trump’s response to the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi and signaled new skepticism from Capitol Hill toward the longtime Middle East ally.

Although the resolutions are largely symbolic — because it’s unclear if they will be considered by the House — passage Thursday showed senators seeking to assert oversight of Trump administration foreign policy and the relationship with Saudi Arabia.

India: BJP activists attacking houses of Cong supporters

Agartala, Dec 13 (PTI) Opposition Congress in Tripura Thursday alleged that ruling BJP activists had attacked the houses of the party's supporters after the Congress' win in three states in the just concluded assembly elections.

President of Tripura PCC, Birajit Sinha alleged inaction by the police despite lodging an FIR police and remained mere spectator.

BJP, he said, was frightened by the assembly poll results of five states which went to poll recently and they were seeing the "spectre of defeat" in the coming general elections to be held next year.

Two Kashmiris killed in Baramulla

Srinagar, Dec 13 (PTI) Two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants were killed in an overnight encounter with security forces in Sopore area of Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district, police said Thursday.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Brath Kalan area of Sopore on Wednesday evening following information about presence of militants there, a police official said.

He said the operation turned into an encounter after militants opened fire on security forces.

3 Palestinians killed in West Bank, East Jerusalem

RAMALLAH, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian sources declared that three young men were killed by Israeli forces in West Bank's Ramallah and Nablus Wednesday night and East Jerusalem Thursday dawn.

Local sources said that around dawn call for prayers, Israeli police forces shot down a Palestinian after he allegedly attacked two police officers leaving them moderate wounds. The officers, one male and one female, were rushed to the hospital, but the suspected Palestinian perpetrator was fatally shot on the spot.

India: 7-yr-old girl raped by neighbour in UP

Balrampur (UP), Dec 10 (PTI) A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in a village in Utraula area here, the police said Monday.

According to the FIR lodged by the girl's family, she was playing outside her home when 33-year-old Paras took her to a secluded place and raped her.

The victim is recuperating in a hospital and her condition is stable, the police said.

The accused has been arrested and the matter is being probed, they added.

India: BJP govt taking country on 'wrong path': Manmohan

Mohali (Pb), Dec 10 (PTI) Former prime minister Manmohan Singh alleged Monday the BJP-led central government was taking the country towards a "wrong path" and the nation's freedom could be under threat due to its actions.

He said the Congress had played an important role in strengthening the country's freedom, but "during the last four and a half years, the BJP laid emphasis on things which could adversely affect India's history".

"This can again endanger country's freedom," he said.

India: Tension in Mathura villages over cattle carcasses

Mathura (UP), Dec 10 (PTI) Tension prevailed in two villages here after cattle carcasses were reportedly found in Kosi Kalan area Sunday, following which additional police force was deployed, officials said.

District Magistrate Sarvagya Ram Mishra said Monday an FIR was registered against unidentified persons and efforts were being made to arrest those responsible.
