UN expert expresses deep concern over death of migrant girl in U.S. custody

GENEVA, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- A UN expert on Monday expressed his deep concern about the death of a seven-year-old Guatemalan migrant girl while she was in the custody of U.S. immigration authorities.

Emphasizing that the U.S. should stop the detention of children, either unaccompanied or with their families, based on their migratory status, and seek alternatives to detention, Felipe González Morales, UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights of migrants, also called for a thorough investigation into how the girl died.

Israel arrests 15 Palestinians in West Bank raids

RAMALLAH, Palestine; 24 Dec 2018; AA: Israeli forces rounded up 15 Palestinians in overnight raids carried out across the occupied West Bank, according to the Israeli military on Monday.

The individuals were arrested for “suspected involvement in popular terrorist activities”, the army said in a statement, without elaborating on the nature of these activities.

President Erdogan: Israeli PM heading 'state terror'

ANKARA; 23 Dec 2018; AA: President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Sunday said the Israeli prime minister is heading "state terror", responding to his tweet attacking the Turkish president. 

Speaking at a mass opening ceremony in Istanbul's Arnavutkoy district, Turkish president said: "Erdogan is the voice of oppressed and you [Benjamin Netanyahu] are the voice of oppressors. You are conducting state terror." 

Kerala CM flays Centre for authorising 'snooping' powers to 10 agencies

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 22; GANASHAKTI: Criticising the Centre's decision to authorise 10 agencies to intercept, monitor and decrypt data contained in any computer system, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan Saturday said the order was an "attack" on individual freedom and the Right to Privacy.

Vijayan said it was even more "disturbing" that the media, members of legislatures and even judiciary have not been excluded from the ambit of the order.

Three Palestinians killed by Israeli fire

Gaza City (Palestinian Territories), Dec 22; GANASHAKTI: Three Palestinians, including a 16-year-old, were killed on Friday by Israeli fire during protests and clashes along the Gaza border, health officials in the Hamas-run enclave said.

Teenager Mohammed al-Jahjuh was "hit in the neck by a bullet (fired) by Israeli soldiers", ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra told AFP.

Abdelaziz Abu Sharia, 28, and Naher Yasin, 40, died from their wounds after being shot in separate incidents along the heavily fortified frontier with Israel, Qudra and a hospital official said.

India: Woman stoned to death by husband in Rajasthan

Jaipur, Dec 23 (PTI) A 32-year-old woman was allegedly stoned to death by her husband in the Rajsamand district of the state, police said Sunday.

Police have detained Narsingh Rawat for allegedly killing his wife of 12 years, Rekha Devi, following a heated argument, police said, adding that the couple has four children.

"The accused (Rawat) following a dispute with his wife, stoned her to death," SHO Bheem Police Station Labhu Ram said.

India: Five policemen suspended after man picked up by security

Imphal, Dec 21 (PTI) Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh Friday told the state Assembly that five policemen have been suspended after a man picked up by security forces in Thoubal district on Wednesday was found dead on Thursday.

In reply to a call attention motion moved by opposition Congress MLA Kh Joikishan Singh, the chief minister further informed that his government has asked the Assam Rifles authorities to make arrangements for surrender of AR personnel who were involved in the arrest of the person along with the suspended five policemen.

India: Hindutva outfit books Naseeruddin Shah flight to Pakistan

Meerut, Dec 21 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh Navnirman Sena Friday said it will send veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah a air-ticket for Pakistan over his comments on the Bulandshahr violence.

The actor found himself at the centre of a major controversy over his remarks in reference to the killing of a policeman in Bulandshahr earlier this month.

He said the death of a cow was being given importance over killing of a policeman in the violence.

India: 6 Kashmiri seperatists killed by Indian security forces in Pulwama

Srinagar, Dec 22 (PTI) Six Kashmiri seperatists were killed in an encounter Saturday morning with security forces in south Kashmir's Pulwama district, police said.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Arampora village in Awantipora area of the south Kashmir district this morning following specific intelligence about the presence of terrorists there, a police official said.

The forces retaliated leading to a gunfight, the official said.
