Israel threatening Christian presence in the city: Jerusalem church leaders

09 July 2020; MEMO: As many as 13 church leaders in the occupied city of Jerusalem yesterday warned that the Israeli court’s decision concerning the Greek Orthodox Church’s property at Jaffa Gate threatens the Christian presence in the holy city, Anadolu reported.

India: Delhi court grants bail to 91 Tablighi foreigners from 21 countries

New Delhi, Jul 8 (PTI) A Delhi court Wednesday granted bail to 91 foreigners from 21 countries who were chargesheeted for attending Markaz at Nizamuddin here allegedly in violation of visa conditions, indulging in missionary activities illegally and violating government guidelines issued after the COVID-19 outbreak.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Gurmohina Kaur granted the relief to the foreigners on furnishing a personal bond of Rs 10,000 each.

India: SC asks SG Tushar Mehta to look into plea seeking action against illegal ashrams

New Delhi, Jul 8 (PTI) The Supreme Court Wednesday asked Solicitor General Tushar Mehta to look into a plea seeking action against illegal ashrams run by bogus Babas' across the country and rescuing women from jail-like conditions in Adhyatimik Vidyalaya' at Rohini here.

"Look into this, what can be done. This gives a bad name to everyone," the top court told Mehta.

UN Council rejects Russia bid to limit Syrian aid deliveries

United Nations, Jul 9 (AP/PTI) The UN Security Council on Wednesday overwhelmingly rejected a Russian resolution that would have cut back the delivery of humanitarian aid to Syria's mainly rebel-held northwest to just one crossing point from Turkey.

Western countries that voted against the resolution have insisted on keeping the two current crossings from Turkey, with strong backing from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and humanitarian groups.

India: UP Cong chief Lallu seeks dismissal of state govt

Lucknow, Jul 8 (PTI) Alleging dismal law and order situation, Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Kumar Lallu on Wednesday demanded the dismissal of the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government in the state.

There is a jungle raj in the state. The Yogi Adityanath government should be immediately sacked. In this regime, even policemen are not safe, Lallu said in a statement here.

China releases article exposing "U.S.-style human rights" hypocrisy

BEIJING, July 9 (Xinhua) -- The China Society for Human Rights Studies on Thursday published an article, laying bare the hypocrisy of "U.S.-style human rights" as evidenced by its extremely harsh immigration policies and violations of the basic rights and personal dignity of immigrants.

The religious, cultural and racial discrimination against immigrants has kept developing and become increasingly intense in the United States, said the article titled "Serious Discrimination Against and Cruel Treatment of Immigrants Fully Expose Hypocrisy of 'U.S.-Style Human Rights'."

USA: Vindman retiring from Army, lawyer blames Trump

WASHINGTON (AP) — Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, a national security aide who played a central role in President Donald Trump’s impeachment case, announced his retirement from the Army on Wednesday in a scathing statement that accused the president of running a “campaign of bullying, intimidation, and retaliation.”

The statement from attorney David Pressman said Vindman, 45, was leaving the Army after more than 21 years after it had been made clear “that his future within the institution he has dutifully served will forever be limited.”

Yemen official: We ask the UAE to take its hands off our oil, gas and ports

08 July 2020; MEMO: Governor of Yemen’s Al Mahwit region, Saleh Sami, called on UAE Crown Prince, Mohammed Bin Zayed, to lift his hands off Yemen’s oil, gas and ports.

On Twitter, Sami wrote: “Oh, [Saudi-led] coalition, we do not want you to arm our army or maintain our security. We only ask [Mohammed] Bin Zayed to take his hands off our ports and stop preventing the export of our gas and oil through them.”

Palestinian prisoner dies of 'medical negligence' in Israel prison

08 July 2020; MEMO: A Palestinian detainee held in Israel jails has died of “medical negligence”, a local NGO said on Monday.

Saadi Al-Gharably, 75, died at Assaf Harofeh medical center after his health deteriorated, the Handala Center for Detainees and Ex-detainees said in a statement.

Al-Gharabli, from the Gaza strip, was arrested by Israeli forces in 1994 and held in solitary confinement until 2006, during that time he was sentenced to life in prison.
