India: Situation in Manipur from bad to worse, Cong slams PM Modi

New Delhi, Oct 4 (PTI) The Congress on Wednesday questioned the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the situation in Manipur, and alleged that never before has a PM completely "abandoned" a state and its entire people like now.

Congress general secretary, communications, Jairam Ramesh said that Manipur coming to such a situation after the BJP was elected to power there 15 months ago is a "most damning indictment of its policies and the prime minister's priorities".

India: ED raids on Sanjay Singh show BJP resorting to desperate measures: CM Kejriwal

New Delhi, Oct 4 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday said the ED raids on AAP leader Sanjay Singh's residence showed that the BJP was resorting to desperate measures as it stares at a defeat in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Many such raids will take place but there is nothing to be scared of, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener said.

Christians facing ‘persecution’ by Israel settlers in Jerusalem: World Council of Churches

03 October 2023; MEMO: Christians face “persecution” by illegal Israeli extremist groups amid government inaction, the World Council of Churches (WCC) in Jerusalem said on Tuesday, Anadolu Agency reports.

“We feel persecution against our community and religion,” WCC coordinator in Jerusalem, Youssef Daher, told Anadolu.

"There is a Jewish Israeli persecution, encouraged either by police negligence or by statements made by Israeli cabinet ministers" he added.

‘Israel occupation direct threat to region, Europe, world security’; PA

30 September 2023; MEMO: The Palestinian Authority (PA) announced on Friday that the Israeli occupation is a direct threat to the security of the region, Europe and the world.

In a statement issued by the PA’s Foreign Ministry, the PA asserted that the remarks by Israeli Army chief Herzi Halevi, in which he considered the West Bank a direct threat to Europe, reiterate that Israeli officials do not miss any opportunity to defame Palestinians.

USA: Senior Senate Democrat threatens to block military aid to Egypt on human rights grounds

02 October 2023; MEMO: The chairman of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee vowed on Saturday to block military aid and arms sales to Egypt if it does not take concrete steps to improve human rights in the country, Reuters reported.

Democratic US Senator Ben Cardin issued the threat in a statement, saying: “It is imperative that we continue to hold the government of Egypt, and all governments, accountable for their human rights violations.”

A sixth person, 50-year-old Ataf Abu Kalib, was also shot dead in broad daylight in Haifa yesterday.

France top Court rejects appeal against ban on Muslim abaya dress in schools

25 September 2023; MEMO: France’s highest Court, on Monday, ruled that the government ban on Muslim dress abaya is legal, Anadolu Agency reports.

The Council of State said it had rejected an appeal by three organisations against the government ban announced last month on abaya – a loose-fitting and full-length robe – worn by some Muslim students in schools.

Sweden: Arson attack severely damages mosque in Eskilstuna

26 September 2023; MEMO: A fire caused heavy damage to a mosque in south-eastern Sweden, according to local media, Anadolu Agency reports.

The fire in the Arby section of the city of Eskilstuna was caused by arson, Anas Deneche, the mosque’s Communication Director, told public broadcaster, SR.

Police records show the mosque has faced threats and was subjected to physical attacks, he said, adding that they are sure that this was an arson attack.
